Problem with a cheap digital camera is the pictures will be so grainy and have no clarity. I bought a cheap digital from Costco about a year ago. $79 with only 480K pixel resolution. Hardly used it because pictures were so poor. Saved up and just got me a Nikon CoolPix 990, with the rechargeable batteries and charger for $795. 00. This one has 3. 34 Mega Pixel resolution. Cameras with 3 mega pixels are fully equal to a high end 35mm in picture quality. Try to save up and get one with at least 2. 1 mega pixels... . they run about $500. You will be much happier with the results.

I agree, but it really depends on what you want the camera for. Is it to take pic. s and then print them out or take pic. s and post them here, big difference. Try to get one with atleast the capability of 640X480 pixels for computer use/viewing only. If you want to print out 8x10 photos, then you need a better camera for quality prints. I have an Agfa 1280 (dinosaur now) that has settings as most do to select which pixel you want. I just set it at low (640x480) and took this pic. of Baxter. Is this pic. the quality your looking for or do you need more. Remember, were talking about viewing the pic. on a computer, not printing it out. If this is okay, then you will probably be okay with a low end 640X480 camera. Surf the web and find one that suits your needs, there are plenty out there now with 640x480 pixels that are priced below $150. 00.

Bigsaint... cool dog... wondered where ya got your "handle"!

Cameras... cheaper ones are as above... they work for what they are made for. You might try finding a few cameras you are interested in, then go to www.bestbuys.com

Type in the name of the camera, and it gives you the top several places to buy it, marked with stars for service, and lowest prices.

I have a sony cybershot 2. 1 megapixel, does stills and mpeg movies. Cheapest I found it around seattle was 575 plus tax. (8. 75%). Found it on the web for $484, no tax, free shipping. Did the same with my printer.

Yes, what Bigsaint posted is true. Sorry, did not even consider what you might be using the camera for. In my case I use the camera to take before and after pictures of almost every job I do. I then store it on CD-RW. If I need it to print pictures of a certain job, it must be high quality or the details cannot be clearly seen. Lot cheaper to do it this way instead of taking pix with the 35mm. If you are using the camera JUST to display pictures on the computer and NOT print it out, then cameras around $150 should be plenty good.

I have a Hewlet Packard digital camera. It's about the cheapest you can go and still get decent pics. It came with Photo Smart software which is very easy to use. We now have a Sony digital camcorder that also take still pics but we use the Hewlet Packard instead. The HP was about $260.

Out of the 150 price-range, but in the <$350 price range, the Olympus D400 series cannot be beat for quality and reliability. I've had a D400Z now for 2. 5 years, ski with it, bike with it, drop it, fill it full of hay, 4 wheel with it, etc. 1000's of pictures. Still ticking. Pictures are 1. 3Mpixel. Newest version out is a D460Z. With a 1200dpi printer, about $250 these days, you get almost photo quality.

I was just looking thru yesterdays newspaper and in the CompUSA ad they had a hard to beat deal. They have the HP C200 camera on sale at $179. 99 plus you get an instant savings of $40 and a mail in rebate of $40. The cost after these savings is $99. 99.
I considered this camera about a year ago but bought an Olympus D340 instead. This HP is not the highest resolution of course, but it might just satisfy your needs and the price is sure unbeatable.
Hope this helps!
