ding ding ding!

While driving on the freeway today I heard the door chime and when I stopped there were no codes/lights, 1/2 tank of fuel, nothing perceivable. Seems like this has happened to me before too... What gives?

Sounds to me like a clock spring. (the clock spring allows you to turn the wheel and not mess up the electronics) I had the samething in my Dakota.

I left my turn signal on one time and it did the same thing.

You also may have had a "lamp out" intermittently. Possibly one of your tailight bulbs. Has happened to many before.

Chances are, it is a tail light. Remove each and inspect the bulb bases. Consider going with glass bases instead of the cheap plastic ones. Most parts houses carry these.
