After 260k miles and 12+ years I decided to try to do something about the dipstick which has been fussy to seat the last couple inches since this truck was new. Just for fun I'll blame the dealer because they did the first oil change for me but I was a ding dong for not going after them to make it right when I noticed the trouble. Honestly I thought maybe I just didn't know some trick - how hard could it be? After enough time, the end near the handle was bent/straightened enough times that I began to wonder if a whole new stick would help. Bought the one from Genos and it's WORSE. I can't get it to seat no matter how much prodding/twisting/cursing I do.

Two differences between the new one from Genos and the stock one. The stock one is a two piece stick riveted together about halfway down and the Genos is a one piece. I would have guessed that would be an improvement - less friction. The other difference is that the stock dipstick has a 360 degree twist at the end in the last couple inches - the Genos is straight/flat. I get the idea now that whatever the obstacle is for the last couple inches down the tube the twist in the stock stick is at least helping a little bit.

I've scanned 20 pages of "dipstick" search results and come up dry. Before I put a twist in the new stick, or start throwing things around the garage over such a dumb problem I thought I'd check here. Only other idea I have is to remove the tube and try to see what's going on down there but I get the impression from search results that's not a picnic I want to have without good reason...

Edited to add>> There's no oil leak so hopefully that is an indicator there's not a problem at the bottom of the tube where it seats in whatever hole it belongs in...

I had the same problem with a replacement dipstick (from Dodge). I ended up taking the tip to the bench grinder, and narrowed / pointed it a little (I stress a little), and it ended up fitting better.
I thought about it breaking off, but that was 100k+ miles ago, and it has held up.
