Truck is a 6 speed '04. 5. Is there any way to disable the auto door lock? I did what it says in the O/M and it didn't work... maybe that is for the RE48?

thanks

It took me a few tries before it would work on mine. I think my timing was off just enough to where it wouldn't work.

Dunno what to say other than certain actions are apparently time & order critical. Mine worked the first time I tried. Guess you just need to keep trying while paying strict attention to the time and order of procedure. Wish I knew more... perhaps dealer will help if you can't get it done.

I like it too. It will prevent car-jacking when you come to a stop somewhere and the jacker just pulls you out of you truck and takes off. That was the #1 reason it was put into vehicles in the first place. The insurance industry lobbied the manufacturers to consider making it a standard item. The second best thing to do when in places of risk is to keep your windows up/down 1/2 way, then they can't grab you either. All of your locks pop up when a door is opened at a stop or when going less than 15mph. I have not tried to open a door at a speed greater than 15mph, so I cannot tell you if it would prevent someone from opening a door when moving. I can see where that would be adventageous too.

The problem with this is the locks should lock when put into gear. If you are backing out of a parking spot that is a good time too have the locks locked. At that time you are not moving any where near 15mph.

phloop.

I agree that the timing of WHEN the locks lock is a bit unusual. Maybe the idea of 15mph has to do with people backing out of a garage, other people getting in, pulling up to a curb to pick someone up, etc. Just gives you a little time for these things. I guess I was looking at it from the direction of once you are moving/traveling it gives you a little protection along the way. I had a friend who was car jacked when she was getting out of her truck in broad daylight at a public parking lot. The locks did nothing for her then. They just knocked her down, grabbed her purse and the keys, and took off - they locked the doors immediately when they got in. Now she has an electrical shut off, and a fuel shut off, in her new Dodge CTD truck.

What am I missing here... what does it hurt for the doors to automatically lock at 15mph or any speed for that matter? It's not like you can't open the door from the inside without hitting the unlock button. Mine not only lock at 15mph all four unlock when the transmission is in park an one of the front doors is opened. ;)

Mine dont work and I want them to thats why Im asking how to change..... no biggy though I ordered a new manula for my truck anyway...

I'm with TKeeler, mine is still on, even though I saw how to disable it in the manual. As soon as either front door is opened, it unlocks both. The only annoying thing is the back doors are always locked when I want to get in them for something, but simple as opening the front and hitting unlock.

IMHO, If you have young kids the door locking is a good thing to have.

The door locks on the wifes Kia lock as soon as the shifter is placed in "D"
