Hitch Choices

Lance truck campers?

Just curious, do you just want the disc's because, or is there a specific reason?

Drum brakes work good if everything is up to snuff. If your brakes are not up to your expectations, maybe it is a controller issue?

Dexter manufactures an optional HD electric trailer brakes that I strongly prefer over hydraulic disc brakes for trailers. The option offers larger diameter and wider brake shoes and drums and, with a good brake controller, provide great braking. I think they are 12 1/4" by 2 1/2" and were an inexpensive option on my HitchHiker

Yes, that option also upgrades the axle capacity from 7,000 to 7,200 lbs with a larger outer hub bearing, thicker walled axle tube and 9/16 wheel studs.

The OP might not have that option if his axles are smaller.

Hbarlow;
Are your new brake upgrades self adjusting? I have a 32. 4 UKTG Hitchhiker w/6000# axles & it's difficult to maintain them without a level driveway. So, I'm curious if you have self adjusting drum brakes, I'd like to hear your assessment.

Walter,

Yes, they are self-adjusting when braking during forward or reverse travel.

They work great! The option was only a couple hundred dollars over ordinary 12" by 2" trailer brakes when I ordered my HH and proved to be a great choice. I have great stopping power and the brakes are always evenly adjusted. I've towed it more than 30,000 miles and never had to adjust brakes. The Dexter Nevr Lube wheel bearings are also a great feature. They sure beat pulling the wheels and hubs once a year to clean and repack wheel bearings.

Thanks Nick, Just read good stuff about their efficiency, and even braking characteristics, Towbrake International was recommended from post on this site, but I can't seem to find it
