If you disconnect both batterys while working on your truck does it do anything weird to the computers? I seem to remember a mechanic friend saying that you have to "relearn" the computer on certain vehicles after battery disconnect. But then again he is a Chevy mechanic:rolleyes:

It may run lousy for 10-20 minutes but the puter teaches itself and runs fine pretty soon. This experience is from non Dodge so if its wrong lets hear it. Also you can buy a unit that plugs into the cigarette lighter that holds a 9 volt battery and will keep you from losing your radio presets and might work on the puter too. Try Radio Shack and aoto parts places

We've had many posts from people that swear if you disconnect your batteries and reset the ECM, you get BETTER performance. The theory is that the ECM adjusts itself for our fueling levels. I've disconnected mine numerous times and never noticed any increase or decrease in performance.

batteries

i've had mine disconnected several times for periods of up to two hours. when reconnected, i couldn't tell any difference in the engine performance. resetting the clock and my cd changer was all that i had to do.

Mine runs better after the batteries are disconnected. I was hoping to find a simple method of resetting the ECM without going through the disconnect routine. Anyone know of a way?

Mine didn't run different at all after leaving both disconnected for a few hours.

Disconnecting them will make you lose your trip mileage, so if you use that to monitor fuel economy then you'll want to write down the reading first. Whatever happened to good ol' fashioned mechanical odometers? :(

Disconected For Hours

Both of mine were disconnected for hours while installing gauges and PacBrake. I never noticed anything different. ;)
