Does anyone know how I can disconnect the horn from the factory alarm system? Several times I have found the truck sitting in a parking lot with the lights blinking and the horn honking. I think the panic button is getting pressed when the remote is in my pocket with keys, etc.
I still want the horn to function normally. I just want to disconnect it from the alarm system.

Thanks for any help.

R1T,

I have wondered the same thing on my 2000 and can find nothing in the owner's or service manuals. It is possible to disable the "chirp" that occurs when the alarm is armed but I haven't found a way to change the panic alarm function. I put my Grover air horns on a circuit separate from the factory horns with their own switch. I also installed relays that will only allow the horns to sound and the compressor to operate with the key in the run position.

I believe that the simplest fix for your situation would be a relay in series with the air horn valve that is open with the key off.

I'll be watching this thread to see if anyway of disabling only the panic alarm exists.

I don't have the security alarm system, but I do have keyless entry. I did disable the panic button because it was always getting pressed in my pocket. Pry the remote apart like you are going to change the battery, in the opposite side from the battery you will see a small circuit board. Between the circuit board and the rubber buttons (this is actually one solid piece of rubber) is a piece of plastic with metalic spots on it. When you press the button, this metalic spot crosses out the contacts on the circuit board. Simply place a piece of paper (I cut a small square from the cover of a phone book) and place it between the plastic piece and the circuit board at the location of the panic button. No more panic button!

RH,

You're a genius!

The simple solutions are always the best!

I didn't have a telephone book handy - I used a piece from an index card. Works great!

Thanks.
