I need to replace the high side A/C line because of a leak in the service port but I am having no luck with the spring loaded connectors on the line. I bought the tool for disconnecting these but there must be a trick to this. The release portion goes up in the fitting like it should to release the spring. I have gotten to the point of letting a A/C shop take the line off for me, but I am open to anything including shaking a dead chicken at it and burning incense. :D

Patience is key factor here! Just slide the tool in and make sure its the right size for the line and wiggle gently several times and it will come loose. Tight lines are a good sign that your o-rings are still good.

Make sure all the pressure is off the line, put the tool on the connector and push it in toward the spring while turning it back and forth. A drop of oil on the tip of the tool that contacts the spring might also help, just clean it off so it won't get in the system. bg

the o-rings could be sticky as well. when i had to do mine, the tool slipped in fine and released the spring lock, but the o-rings were sticky. Took a bit of doing to get the hoses apart.

If your line is not damaged you can replace the service port on you 2001. Cost abot $5 for the high side port and O ring. Takes about 5 minutes after system is discharged.

Thanks for the info. I decided since I was replacing the line anyway to take a tubing cutter and cut the line so I could rotate it a little while I used the tool. As soon as a rotated it the line came off fine. The line itself wasn't damaged just leaking out the high side port but I was told by the local Dodge dealer that the whole line had to be replaced. Oh well 60 bucks later and I have cold A/C and a nice shiney new aluminum A/C line.
