The Night before Christmas

Maybe Ford is wising up?

Hey guys -

I received a quote for what I thought was a 2016 2500 4x4 w/ 5th wheel tow prep. Nice truck, I put a down payment to hold it til next week until I get can some cash together to lower the price.

When I get home I'm looking over the window sheet (which wasn't on the truck) and I see it's a 2015 year model. Shouldn't I be getting some discounts for last year's model?

(It's also got the base model 17" wheels on it, while the window sheet says it has the Chrome Package, which includes chrome 18" wheels....I need that fixed!)

Price is almost always very negotiable, based on trim, year, model, region, demand, etc.

And very dependent on your knowledge and ability about buying vehicles, financing...

Huge topic and question you posed, but generally dealerships are very motivated to deal at the end of the month, and more at the end of the year!

Tell them you will pay them $500 under to $500 over invoice (you pick), and you keep all rebates, over the phone can work well/better. Make them show you the invoice, and you should already know the approx. numbers in advance (exact truck & options!) by researching kbb.com or nadaguides.com .

If you have excellent credit and/or cash, you should be in the driver's seat...but most folks need knowledge, confidence, and experience to not feel dirty after buying from a dealer.

Good luck.

Turns out they're giving me a pretty smoking deal, according to TrueCar. I'm well under the local and national average selling price for a 2015 truck w/ my configuration.

So, I just need to get the correct chromed steel tires back on there without paying an up fee, and I'm golden.

Thanks for the answer, James! I hope you're having a terrific holiday.

Good, they should be, and there is nothing wrong with buying a 2015.

Did they put aftermarket 'bling' wheels on the rig?

I'm a fan of OE aluminum wheels, preferably forged, I bought mine from Craigslist sellers (my 2500 had OE 18" steel). But wheels are a personal choice thing.

Yep, good and safe holiday so far, thanks.

Marry Christmas to you Mike.

No, the truck's got these 17" wheels on painted steel hubs - the basic wheels. It looks stupid with everything else so shiny. Checked the window sticker after I got home, and find that the chrome package is supposed to include those wheels. So, back to the dealership tomorrow to insist that they remove the $1,600 he wanted for a set of 18" w/ Chrome, and put back in the set they took off the truck sometime in the past. Otherwise, no deal.

I pointed out the window sticker said 18" wheels w/ chrome hubs, so he gave me the Laramie chromed hubs and wheels at no extra cost. He couldn't explain why the rig had the base model hubs. Hope to pick the truck up Weds.

The 18" Laramie wheels are the best looking ones in the stable.

Congratulations!

Glad the dealer made it right for you. I've been spending the last few months trying to track down the right 2015 without any luck, and have crossed path with some really un-honest dealerships.

Picture!?!? ;)

Yep, the newer rigs can be pretty nice and impressive.

Here I am with the new truck! It barely fits in the parking garage at work - there may be 8" clearance.

Nice looking color and I really like the design of those forged aluminum wheels.

Good for you!

Heck, with 8-inches clearance you can up-size your tires a size or two ;)

I like it. Those wheels are actually alum forged wheel design for 2016 SLT/Bighorn, not Laramie.

I agree. Those are what I would have selected if I had ordered my 2016 truck. I like the way they look better than the 18" Laramie (had a set from a 2014 I put on my 2011 for a while, nice looking wheels) or the SLT/Laramie 20" wheels on my latest truck.
