Just FYI for those who want to hear the turbo on their 06. I recently purchased air raid filter kit wit MIT( modular intake tube) which I thought was more than it was for the cost! With hopes that once factory things removed would be able to hear compression whistle. So with it installed no difference. So before you spend or invest $ might try something else. If someone has a solution I'm all ears. My 99
Did not have this issue.

The air box on the 99 is right by the passenger comparment, the 3rd gens are a lot further away with longer pieces of intake to deaden the sound. It won't sound the same.

Just keep in mind that turbo whine is lot easier for the passenger to hear (it's very audible on an 06) and if you make it louder, many people wont be able to tolerate it for hours on end.

Yes if that is the thin metal ring. Nothing in the filter intake tube. Completely clear. Still puzzled why sound is nothing like my previous 99 2500. Any suggestions are appreciated.

Location of the air filter in reference to the cab. Look at the piping.

A metal MIT will increase the sound and there are a few companies that make them. None of them direct flow as nicely as the Airaid MIT thou.
