I'm researching an LED array conversion for taillights. I have a broken taillight out of a 2nd Gen Dodge (the bottom 'filler' section is cracked... the rest of it is fine... ) - so I can hack that to bits and it will become my test-bed.

Some folks on here have done some stuff with LED's and I was wondering if anyone had the following info:

1) What size LED's are you using?

2) What light output (lumens... mcd, etc... . ) are you using?

3) Which voltage are you using? 2 volt?

4) Which viewable angle is most popular?

I don't like the idea of drop in replacement lamps - I'd rather make my own array... .

There are a TON of online places that offer LED's... but I don't know which size, voltage, light output, etc to choose... .

I saw a pic online of a kit to replace the standard incandescent lamps with an array for old F*rd Broncos... . it looked really sweet... and is a huge improvement over just LED drop in lamps...

Thanks in advance,

Matt

That's exactly what I was planning on doing... . except use more LED's spread out over a larger area... .

His idea is good, but it ain't bright enough.

He does give up his source for 2. 0V LED's with part #'s... . sweet!

Timmarrrrgh!!: Excellent link!

Matt,

Which tailight did you break?

I broke my passenger side taillight out last month. I just got a set of aftermarket taillights to replace the oem.

Anyways, I have the driver side taillight in EC laying in the garage if you need it. Pay for shipping and its yours or any other member that needs it.

Somebody spent too much time playing with a Lite-brite as a kid:D

I've seen some slick LED tailight setups out there, wish someone would come up with an aftermarket setup instead of all those lame alteeza lights.

Matt--when you get it done..... if ya can keep the price down..... i bet a bunch of us would go for it... . HINT HINT!!!!

I love playing with lights/LEDs... . I never had a Lite-Brite... other kids had 'em and I thought they were kinda cool. :D I never liked any of the templates, though... they were all lame... like butterflies or cats...

I was always looking for a Pete 359 long-nose template... never did find it, though... .

I didn't break a taillight - a guy I know back home backed into something and cracked his... . I was nice enough to swap out his hide-away strobe... . so he was nice enough to give me the damaged taillight.

I will keep everyone updated as to how it works out... .

I didn't plan on selling kits, but if people really want them... . I can't refuse my fellow TDR brothahs/sistahs. :)
