Hello friends,

Need a little help here.

My add comes out in a few days on my 01 truck. As it puts down 400 hp to the wheels, i don't want to attract joy riders who will waste my time and my truck.

I plan on telling them on the phone that they may come look at it. But that doesn't't mean that they will drive it w/o sincere interest.

Not sure how to do this and i need some advice on what might work

Thanks

DD

i would say something like " before i let anyone test drive this vehicle i want to make sure all other terms and condition are met, is the price agree able, is financing lined up, does your wife need to see it before you buy it. "

or try

"so as long as this truck runs as good as it looks you are prepared to take it with you?"

i think with some explaination of why you feel the way you do most people will understand.

Cash deposit...

before a test drive. No cash = No test drive. The higher you set the cash requirement, the less joy riders you will have. Wanna play? Gotta pay!

Dan -

have you ever dyno'ed that 01? 400 looks a bit low for what you have listed in your sig. Just curious.

Jason

By the way... how much will you be asking for the truck? I know this isn't the classifieds section, but I am just curious.

I believe he dynoed it last year at our Dyno event, but I don't know if anything has been added since.

Dan, I think you are on the right approach, explaining yourself and making it clear that only serious inquires are going to drive it.

When I sold my 96 I had the same problem.

I just take em for a drive and point out the good things about the truck. I then ask if they want to buy it today. If they say yes and show me the money, I let them drive while I sit next to them and tell em "No hot rodding untill the truck belongs to you"

I bought my truck used, and after I spoke with the owner and his wife, and after I looked all through it and sat it in I KNEW I wanted to buy it. Driving it was just icing on the cake. I put $500 cash down that day. I'd suggest if they aren't carrying a thousand or so to put down for good faith money, they have no business driving it.

I know you want to discourage these people but hey you should drive it and if they are seriously interested and have money, let them drive it conserativly... if someone wouldnt let me drive or took me for a drive i wouldnt even consider dealing with them

Thanks Guys

GiesJ

It dynoed at 374/772 w/o the HX40 and the Scotty II so 400 should be a conservative #.

Crudd

I have over 46k invested and am asking 30,750 w53 k miles

maybe i should let them drive it with the comp off. Then let them feel it w the comp on 5/5 with me driving. That should keep it out of the ditch.

Thanks again for all the ideas.

I would be willing to talk to any TDR member or friends of members on the price a little. Would love to see it go to a good home.

In your ad, if it is not too late, I would put something like "Serious Inquiries Only"... That usually discourages window shoppers as well. . Just something else to think about saying!

Hey, just say "No test drives(period)". Just like in ads for exotic cars. Straight to the point works best.

Do like some dealers do check out there driver license and make them sign a waver that says basically want you want to say. You broke it you bought.

"No test drives" or drive it yourself and let them ride along.

Fortunatly, I sold mine to a guy that I work with (Fire Dept), and he drives me (crazy sometimes) to fires and medical aid calls - so I know his driving style! :)

Seriously, if someone wants your truck, they will buy it based on what it has to offer them and the driving is just "icing on the cake" as previously mentioned.

You have to proceed on a case by case basis. I have let people drive things and I have also taken others for a ride, and i have also told them that it was not clear to me just how interested they were, and that I did not sense they were serious enough to be driving it..... so it was not going to happen.

As a different point, I never have and never will drive a vehicle that I did not test drive. There is far too much risk in that. So, if you tell someone they can't drive it, don't be surprised if they refuse to buy it.

I bought my 01 off the internet when it was one year old and drove to Chicago to get it. I talked to the guy over the phone quite a bit and told him if it was what he said it would be, I would take it. We worked out an acceptable way of payment and when I got there I drove it and everything was exactly what he told me over the phone. So I would say anyone serious about buying will probably rattle you with questions about the truck and acceptable way of payment for a day or two before even asking to drive it. I'd say you'll probably be able to tell the serious ones from the joyriders, at least most any way.
