I've been getting some trouble codes when using a OBII reader, but cannot get anything to display on my dash. I haven't had any check engine lights come up.

I've read that turning the key on/off/on/off/on will display the problem code (s?) on the odometer.

I've tried this and nothing displays. Does this mean I don't have a serious enough code to display?

Or am I doing something wrong?

Does it matter if you normally display the trip meter or odometer?

Is there something more to the on/off/on technique?

The first time I tried the 3 times on then off I was turning the key too far back to the lock/key out position. Try just on, then one click back, then on, one click back then on. If there are no codes the odometer area will show P done.

They only display on the 2000 and newer trucks the older ones you had to use the obdII readers to get the codes.

Thanks!! That's the answer I've needed. I've tried that key thing several times and always got nothing. Glad to know it isn't supposed to work on a 98. 5.
