Colone DC had to buy trucks...

Looking for a local chapter

There were three locations for the entire Hell event. We all met at Colone Dodge for the classes, pancakes, shopping and awards. Then we paraded to Hell for a picnic lunch. From there we paraded to the DC proving grounds.

When we paraded to the DC proving grounds, I was behind a guy with a raised 4x4 who had dual stacks. Every time he accelerated, smoke would billow out and engulf my truck. Mrs Doc kept tellng me to roll up the windows and turn on the A/C.

Over three hundred trucks paraded through the countryside, holding up traffic and getting stares from all sorts of people. One old guy was trying to get to his mailbox and all the trucks just kept on driving by. I will never forget the look on that old mans face as his head wobbled back and forth.

We passed a bicyclist, who was riding with traffic in our lane. The road was narrow, so we had to slow for opposing traffic and when we got around the guy on the bike, I noticed many of the trucks pouring it on spitting out black smoke on the poor bugger.

When we passed through the town of Chelsea, that guy with the dual stacks, in front of me, kept stopping and roaring away. The people in the town would trun and stare at the site.

Finally, we arrived at the proving grounds and the stacker guy, who happened to have mud tires, took off across the manicured lawn that they were using for parking, with sheets of sod flying and a dirt rooster tail that must have been twenty feet tall. Some of the sod landed on my truck and I was pissed. My wife was trying to calm me down because I was going to go beat the shot out of him.
I don't know who he is, but if I ever see him on the road again...

Ain't seen one of them around here #ad

Actually it landed on the guy directing traffic #ad
I can't believe anyone would tear up the lawn, I bet Dodge will have to replace it. Did anyone get the license plate of that truck that did it? Wasn't it the purple truck? He went back and circled around those divots, I heard. I also heard of an innocent officer of the law getting a so choked up he had to stop traffic #ad

Unfortunately, it looks as if TDR members left quite an impression. Often there is wonderment when things are "taken away. " It is a shame that the actions of a minority spoil it for the majority. Good to meet you and the Mrs. Carry on with the GLTDR.

Hey Doc,
I think it was the same guy I got stuck behind on my way home ! He really smoked me... my Amsoil lifetime air filter is all clogged up, my windshield won't come clean, and every time I blow my nose it comes out black! I hit those ruts in the field as we were leaving, it really launched my truck, kicked the back end up like a mule. I'm gonna stick one of those smokestacks in him, where the sun don't shine, when I catch up to him. I'll save the other smokestack for you.

Noticing the bare patches in the grass, I examined them rather closely. I think the grass will grow back quickly; in a couple months, it won't even be noticed. Besides, the ground was moist in spots, and some deep-ish ruts were worn into the grass; our trucks *do* carry some weight.

That young fellow with the swampers really didn't damage the grass as badly as grazing sheep do. You have to have really *sharp*, open, tread lugs to tear up a lawn enough to kill the roots. A couple nights of rain followed by a couple days of sun and there'll be green blades of grass sticking up again. And they've already had that in Chelsea.

So much for the technical side. As to the socio-political side, it probably shouldn't have been done, but there's no permanent damage. The guilty parties have been suitably chastened, and will exhibit restraint in the future. And the folks who deliberately smoked the innocent bike rider should be penalized 150 HP. For two months.

I bet the average Joe or Jane know little to nothing about diesels, except that, "they don't make enough power and they smoke and their loud. "

I don't know about the rest of you guys, but I hope my truck impresses people when it goes by. I don't want it to blow out a big ol' cloud of black smoke, no matter how much extra power it gives me.

I realize that there's only a small percentage of guys out there that likes their truck to blow out all that smoke, but it makes diesels look ****ty when they do it. I'd rather that biker think, "Man those were some cool ass trucks, I'd like to get me one. " Versus, "cough, cough, cough. I can't wait til all those piles of crap have gone by. What junk, I'll never own one of those smokers. "

I didn't notice the divots. I was one of the 1st ones in at the PG, but the last one at doing what I got to do. Of course it was because of my situation, not the because of the event. I hope the grass grows back though.

JyRo, if I cared about what others thought about my smoke, I wouldn't have the star wheel where it is now. I am a part of a small percentage of guys that enjoy the smoke. It can be obnoxious to some, but soon I am gone and they go on with life. Unfortunately with you, I find your recent attacks on the GLTDR obnoxious and your posts do not go away fast enough. If you have been reading what Doc and Steve usually post, you would know that they tend to stretch things a tad. The GLTDR is the TDR minus politics and equals a bunch of great guys that get to joke around and not worry about offending anyone. If you do not want to join us; fine, I'm sure there is a group of your types out there somewhere that will better suit you. As far as the divots, I should have displayed more maturity and I have apologized to the folks that deserve an apology. See everyone in Hell, 2001.

OK, I see your point. Humor, hmmmmm... ... I promise to work on it. I haven't attacked the GLTDR, I said it made them LOOK like punks, not that I really think that they ARE punks. Besides, me a Steve have it straightened out, and I see the error of my picky ways.

Oh yeah, what's a star wheel?

First off, I might as well apologies to everyone who reads my post, because I'm struggling to hold my thoughts in at the moment. . I also suspect my post will not reflect the "high road" here... as my father always "tried" to teach me to take.

Secondly, I wasn't there, so I don't know if we have a mole hill turning into a mountain. There is always two sides to every story.

Either way, putting this event aside, and how its been portrayed on the TDR. I just want to take a moment to remind everyone of something which affects ALL of us.

Unfortunately this kind of thing is a very sensitive issue for me, because well over 3/4 of the free/available off-roading areas where I live have been shut down due to the "who cares" attitude. It happened in our area because "their" areas were shut down after they ruined everything. Then like locust, they moved in and start ruining our available areas, until they were also shut down. #ad

So yes. . I'm sick and tired of guys who say "I don't care what anyone thinks". Who's the first to ***** when our off-road trails are shut down or events no longer held... Or they start charging heavy entrance fees for the events because they know they will have to clean up after a "few" children. . Is it that difficult to understand that WE don't own the land or the town the event was held in!!! So it doesn't matter what YOU or I think. . The life of these type of events are dependent upon our perceived behaviour.

In many ways I agree with Stack'd in that this is America... land of freedom and expression and all that jazz. Unfortunately... this is also year 2000, and the available areas to do what ever we wish are becoming less and less. . everyday. This kind of action only speeds up the process.
Hey, don't get me wrong, if blowing smoke and shredding grass is your cup of tea... by all means. Feel free. . on your property. I promise not to care, or say a word. Actually, I'd be happy for you. I also like makin a roost when I'm out wheelin. But don't think for a moment that you or my OPINIONS or ATTITUDE will win over the general population of the people who live there or OWN the land. Promotion and growth of our interests comes from setting an example to others... ESPECIALLY outsiders who don't understand our passion. Like it or not folks. . thats just the way things are these days. I just wish everyone would figure it out. In the mean time, we keep killing what freedom is left with more and more peddy little laws and ordinances to compensate for a select few who feel the need to express an unwritten freedom against respect of someone else's property. Whew... OK, I'm done now.

As I said in the beginning, just something to think about. .

I'm sort of afraid to say anything, because I usually get jumped on for speaking out like you just did Deezal Man. Hold on, let me see if there's anything you stated that I don't agree with ... ..... nope. #ad
I'm probably going to get slammed.

Well I wasn't there either.

One thing that I do know:

If anyone intentionally damages the property of another in ANY way(particularly the HOST), that's just plain disrescpectful and well, dumb.
Even if it's just a small peel out... ... the same applies.

Yes, I do have a sense of humour.

Just not quite sure how damaging property is funny though... ...

The person who said that they didn't care, must care..... because they replied to the message.

Unless of course it NEVER happened at all... ... then it's entirely in jest.

Seriously though, it seems you've encountered one of the limitations of written language. To wit: it can be quite difficult to express one's thoughts in writing such that most others understand the concepts, intent and emotions presented. Look at the to-and-fro, the back-and-forth our Founding Fathers went through writing the Constitution. It wasn't easy. It takes a lot of thought and care to adequately express one's thoughts in writing so that others grok what you know, mean and feel. I write engineering documents, and writing them is quite similar, though pertaining to a *very* narrow field. To use an old cliche, practice makes perfect. So practice and learn from your mistakes. And be glad that these are only words; up-close and in-person has been known to be a *lot* more distressing! (Not that any TDR member would resort to *that* sort of remonstration. ... Right?)
