Suppose I'm out in the boonies, way up in the mountains and it's a long way to anything that looks like a road, much less a highway. (I can dream, can't I?). But suppose I start getting those messages on the overhead about the DPF being 80% full, then 90% full. If I have on board air, and some tools with me, is it possible to remove the DPF, and blow enough soot out of it by using an air gun? Or will this damage the DPF? I'm asking before I get there, because I don't think they have WIFI out there. Of course, I'd dispose of the soot in an environmentally responsible way according to all local codes. :-laf

Or maybe I should build a nice hot campfire, put the DPF in the middle of it and burn the soot out?

The only logical reason that would happen (if you have the latest software) is if you have DTC's stored that block a regen from happening. In that case you still have the option of putting a non flamable spacer in front of the dpf flange to creat an air gap so the exhaust will be able to flow.

That's what I was going to say. When they used to come in plugged and not running you just unbolt the front flange and wedge a spacer in and it runs great again until you get it repaired. No need to remove it for cleaning unless you have a long way to get back to civilization. And then only to keep the hot gases from burning the paint off the bottom of the truck if it's exposed.
