I was on the GM page last night and noticed a weird problem coming up on the common rail system. A red gritty deposit is plugging the injectors and it appears to be post filter. The system uses a filter that is finer yet than our 2002 filters or previous GM systems as the injectors are more critical to the common rail system. They ARE the controllers. And very expensive. I am happy to have purchased a new 2002 HO recently and avoided the common rail. George

YUP - that's a BIG reason I bought my '02 as well - a guinea pig is STILL one - regardless of whether he's used to test a new, untried GM *OR* a DC product!

Suspicions on the GM version seem to be the use of some fuel additives that create small deposits in some fuel systems - GM supposedly forbids use of fuel additives in the DM engines...

LOTS of difference between replacing a *single* $150 lift pump on my truck - or a set of fancy fuel injectors at $800 EACH as in the DM (and possibly the coming DC?) engine... !:p ;) :D

Gary, I think you have something there--it may be a reaction to additives. This fellow who started the string on the Diesel Page was refused warrentee so asked for DP help on the subject. ALL injectors had this red (rusty looking) grit and the quote for all injectors and pump was 6,500 bucks. Others have had the problem and GM has picked it up. This fellow said that he had used Stanadyne but quit when he found out he was not to use it. GE
