DUH!!!

Some dealerships will want to void the warranty on the entire truck if you put in a K&N filter! No, Im not kidding! If you are worried about the value of your warrany, dont even look under the hood... . if you want a decent truck, then screw the warranty and modify what you want. Perplexing, isnt it?

Dealers will try to bluff you that any thing you do will void the warantee. The truth is they have to, by law, prove that what you did caused the failure.

Example, a shift kit cannot cause a head gasket to fail. Bigger injectors could cause a head gasket to fail. Few dealers will ever know that injectors are changed unless you tell them.

Now really, if you have been to most service shops and watched what they do, you would be proud to do your own work. The guys in the dealers ships are trained to change parts, and not to dig until they find one single defective part. They are not mechanics but are parts changers.

I am sorry if I insulted the few good ones. !!!It isn't meant that way.

Sorry to veer off course here, but this line rang a bell here. Pardon the pun, but it reminds me when I was a service tech for a fire alarm company. I got reamed for saving my customer's money. When we would find a bell not ringing during a test, it might just have an old birds nest in it, or just need a little WD-40, or the gong might not be on right, or whatever. We would show it to the customer & say we can save it by just removing the nest (saves them about 50 bucks per device). When the owner of the company got wind of it, I was seriously warned to make sure any parts are replaced, not repaired. Or bye bye.

Well, this makes sense if your not sure the problem is completely repaired, but come on. . cleaning out debris is unacceptable??

No thanks on visiting the dealer here. Not unless theres no other option.

Of course not everyone is a crook, but the dirty ones w/ no consideration always end up giving the orders (they bring in the most money).

Back to the topic, I dont think they would hardly notice 275 injectors by the way it runs.

But these guys have seen everything. As soon as they see gauges, they know youre spending money on mods. They'll probably go look at the boltheads on the valve cover for tool marks, pinch marks on the pump wire, etc.

jringler, yes the injectors will void the warranty and yes the shift kit will too. You may want to consider getting a set of DD1's as you can get them with the OEM part number on them and get another 20-25 HP on top of the 275's. The dealer cannot tell that the DD1's are aftermarket without sending them out for testing. The DD1's will not hurt your transmission either and will bring you to the level you want after driving a PSD. You may also want to consider an EZ, I don't think they are ready for the 02 model yet, but it will give you more seat of the pants power. Towing power will likely be the same with an EZ or the DD1's. Hope this helps.

It does not matter what SN is on the injectors, a good tech will be able to tell that you have changed the performance of the engine by looking at the data in the ECM. The ECM can rat out everything done to the truck. This has been verified by several members who have seen it done. I believe it was Evan Beck who saw a cummins engineer look at the data and decide there were mods with out even looking for them. With that said you have to know that if you change anything on your truck the dealer can void your warranty on that piece of your truck. So bigger injectors will void the engine/drivetrain warranty if the dealer decides to void it.

The often cited Moss/Magnson act is a good tool but who has the time or $$ to sue DC to get them to fix your truck. You could easily buy a new truck for what that would cost.

It comes down to this, if you modify your truck in any way you HAVE to take responsibility for what you have done. You should not expect DC to pay for stuff that you break modifying your truck.

Repeat after me..... I am my own warranty station.

I agree JR2. I wouldn't try fighting anyone for my doing, especially for an obvious emissions violation.

If you care a great deal about your warranty, then don't mess with the truck.

THANKS FOR REPLIES!

Wow ,

Good Forumming boys!

You guys are very interesting. Until the 100k warranty times out I really dont want to pay for trannys etc. but want the mods. . mmm dilemma eh?

Thanks for taking the time to respond. . I truly appreciate your time as I am new and understand one thing. . I know nothing yet.

I was at the dealer not long ago and the service writer and mechanic said it sure sounds good, what have I done to it. I just said changed oil and take care of it. He said well I guess it makes no difference, I ain't gonna spend time looking or wasting time checking out stuff. I think he was talking about taking off the cover to look at the injectors and such. Of course he could see the 4" exhaust.

As the other have stated, if you BOMB, plan on your own outta pocket cash for repairs that are related to the BOMB's. You might get lucky and find a good dealer or tech that won't report you, but I wouldn't count on that. Only you can make the call on voiding the warranty as it's YOUR truck. I decided that I'll only go around once and wanted to have a high HP truck, spent alot of $$$ getting there but man, it's sure fun to drive  . In ten years, when I'm older and more frugal, my next CTD will probably stay stock. Well... . maybe just a set of gauges, and a louder exhaust, and a bit more power, OH NO !!!!! :D .
