Since I’v installed an ATS 2pc exhaust manifold I was finally able to drill and tap for an egt probe. Now that I’m able to monitor the egt’s I notice from time to time the gauge acts like a windshield wiper. Up to 1200, then down to 900, 1100 down to 900, up to 1200 backdown to 900. It does this for about 3-5 minutes then settles down to 850-900 and stays that way for about 1/2 hr to an hour and then the cycle starts again. Happens in town or on the hi-way. In town I’m in 4th all the time. Hi-way driving towing or not. Just curious, is this the regen cycle. No msg on the overhead readout.

Thanks for the replies.

yup those are the active regens, when it does a full regen it'll be around 1200-1300 for extended time on the freeway. normal operation.
ditch the K&N, they'll dust your engine. youtube dusted cummins engine.

X2.
I have even seen 1450F when towing my 5er and in regen on the highway for 10 to 15 min's. The regeneration process took around 20 min's and would go from 850F to 1450F but usually stayed around 1250F. This would happen every 250 to 300 miles when towing.

When you are in the regen process click on the overhead MPG reading you will see the fuel mileage drop off. This along with the EGT's will be good indicator when you are in the regen process.
