Archived Do I have to pull the axles to do back brakes?

I have a 2001 reg cab 4X4. With my 93 truck I had to pull the axles out to do the back brakes. The dodge service manual does not mention doing that or a haynes manual. Looking in TDR issue57 it talks about having outboard drums. It is the (Backfire) write up at the end of the magazine. Do I have to unscrew the bolts that look like there for the axles shaft and there will be a spindle nut? I know I am making this harder than it is. This should be easier than having to deal with my 93 diesel that I had.

The rear brakes are conventional outboard style, the shoes and slave cylinder are on a plate bolted to the axle, just remove wheel and drum and have at it!

Take the wheels off. Then the drums can be pulled off. If they are difficult, put a couple of lug nuts on loose. Then start the engine and put it in gear. Step on the brakes hard and the drums should come loose.
