truck has 31k miles... never towed. Had an EZ since 11k miles... and have 3. 54 gears. Looking to get a VB/TC from DTT... . but the Update kit has been suggested by S Kondallay. Problem is, this adds MANY hours of shop time ($$$$)... not to mention the price of the kit. Anybody out there NOT have it? Opinions? Thanks!

How 'bout them DAWGS!!

As long as you're planning on staying with the EZ and a possible mild injector upgrade then I'd say you don't need it. IMO the stock internals with an aftermarket TC & VB can easily hold a mild HP combo (~300 rwhp).

my $0.0175

Well, when I got mine I did get the update kit. It cost me the cost of the kit plus $250 of extra labor... . what I figured was: What the hell, I'm already spending this much, might as well fix it right the first time! Know what else??? I don't worry about my transmission at all. Right now all I have is a Comp, but after X-mas we should be putting in DDII's or III's as well as a 4" exhaust... then next summer will come the PDR HX-40. Probably need billet input and output shafts sometime in there as well..... it never stops!!!! BUT, I LOVE MY TRUCK!!! Nobody passes me if I don't want them to... nobody has beat me from a stoplight that I was truly racing. I love my DTT transmission... can't get enough of the way it shifts under accelleration.

I'd say get the update kit... if you don't, you'll probably regret it sometime down the road when you want to upgrade your turbo and that EZ to a Comp.

Oh, no comment on ATS... I went with DTT for a reason though...

I'm gonna get the DTT VB, TC and update kit when I get the auto swapped in. I spoke with Bill K. and was told that at my HP level (422 ponies) the stock internals would disintegrate real quick :(. It's not that much more $. While they have the transmission out of the truck, might as well do it. You'll at least have piece of mind knowing it's there.

i was concerned wether or not to get the 5 clutch up date kit or not when i had mine rebuild 20k ago. i figured the transmission is out, go ahead and get all you can don to it once, then there is nothig holding you back from any upgrades in the future. this way the transmission will hold mild or wild power upgrades. do it once, do it right with DTT.

hey dixie loved that reply when the "other" company was suggested, i laughed pretty hard. hope you like your upgrade as much as everyone else

I have the DTT kit t/c v/b and clutch update and I'm not going to tell you it's the best out there, I don't know and I don't have the money to try them all but I did just go 1000 miles to buy a 5 spd because I'm not happy with the auto, NOT DTT just not happy with the auto if I were you, and I was, I said the same thing to myself " should i spend that extra money on the update kit" " DOI really need it". Just concider that $450 or maybe more of the total is labor to R&R the transmission that clutch update installed isn't that much. With the low miles you have on the transmission just think of it as a little extra insurance. Take care and good luck either way you go.

I was in the same boat few months ago but I was debating the to put in the billet hub and input shaft. (I was getting the tc/vb/update kit from the start) Well of all people my wife said "would it be cheaper to do it now while he's in there? You know you ain't gone stop with the BOMBS, get it done while it's off the truck":D Another miracle soon followed, I actually listened to her;) ;) FWIW I would get the kit, DD II's and your done... ... ... ... ... ... ... ... ..... sure, we never heard that one before!;) :p

For those of you guys that want to know the technical reasons why Bill does the kits he put up a technical post about it on his own site. Its titled " Update kit why not just a TC & Valve Body "

I just had mine done. Got the update kit but not the billet shaft. Bill suggested unless I plan to install an exhaust brake, I really don't need it. I haul my camper and plan to pull a medium sized trailer. I love the improved performance of the DTT VB/TC/SC/UK/EZ/DDII combo. Can't wait to load the truck and head on out. If you're gonna do it, might as well do it well. Get the update kit. I think you'll be very satisified like the majority of the DTT customers.

I was told that the 96' and up already had a 5 clutch pak and other "upgrade" goodies from the factory. The source shall remain nameless so as not to start a war but this a pro.

I'd say if you can afford it, what the heck, go for it, it'll last that much longer. If you can't really afford it, skip it you'll more than likely be fine. At about 100k miles I had James N. install my DTT valvebody and 91% converter, the seal upgrade kit and James rebushinged everything and re specked everything there. That was all I could afford so I didn't upgrade anything else, especially since, in my own words, "It's not like I'm gonna be racing with it or something" Hell I even left the original clutch plates in it. Well, now I've got almost 150k on the truck, launching at the track in 4wd, pull my 33' travel trailer all over the country (usually at about 80mph) and she's still holding together. I have to be honest, looking back, I wish I had done a few more of the updates but hey, she's holding together fine and has never missed a beat :)
