Help, I need some input. I went to the dealer yesterday and saw a Flame red 3500 DRW LB, 48RE with all the wistles and bells. Now i'm contemplating selling the reliable 01' with only 34K miles and moving up. Am I crazy??? Have I lost touch with the reality?? I don't dislike my truck now, as the matter of fact it's set up just perfect. So why am I doing this?? I need some opinions fast!!! Any comments and/or suggestions are appreciated... ... ... :-{}

Personally I am also looking at a 2003 also. However I can tell you now I won't trade my 2001 for it. I am thinking of letting the wifes car go, she likes driving trucks just like I do.

Unless I was having troubles with my 2001 , I wouldn't trade it in this soon.

6 speed HO for a slush box!?!?

Admitedly the truck is where you want it "Just Perfect"?!?!

Somebody slap that man, or take away his keys and his pen.

No way

I also have an 01 - 6 spped - H. O. E-brake etc. etc. . My cousin in Mo. has the new 03 3500. Not worth the trade and expense.

Ok, common sense has prevailed (along with several rammers) and the 01' will be staying for awhile. If there is a new Cummins in my future, it will have to be a HO six speed, 4X4. Not enough of a difference between my 01' and the new truck if I go the smart way and get a 6 speed in it as well. :rolleyes: Thanks for the reality check everyone!!!:D Besides, the anticipation of the 04' will keep me in suspence! ;) Sarge

NO SELL!

If you can't afford them both--don't get the new one! Besides new car depreciation is what keeps most of America poor.

If a tornado sucks up your 01 and spits it out in another county--well, OKAY this one time. :p

If you HAVE to have a new one wait until the '05's come out and the slightly used '04's are available. That keeps you further away from the TSB machine and further along in customer driven product development--fixes!

Hang on to what you have;

A very wealthy man once told me "The least expensive vehicle you will ever own is the one that you own right now" Also,

"when you finally do have to replace it, look for a late model used veh. and do not finance it for more than 24 to 36 months depending on the vehicle" and this one just for the heck of it: "The best tax advantage you will ever have is a business of your own, so if you can buy the veh. for your business, better yet"

Wouldnt you Miss the rattling of the 24V Cummins?? I would keep the '01. Wait to get a new one till the 250K mile mark!!!

This is what I like about this forum, large doses of reality, wether you like it or not!!:D Thanks everyone, the noisy old gal is staying (and i'm keeping the truck too):--)

Whew! I see that logic and good sense has prevailed :D

This is purely my opinion, but here it is anyway:

6 speed == :D auto transmission == :{

2nd Gen (either 12 or 24 valve) sound == :D:D:D HPCR sound == :confused: :rolleyes:

If I wanted a diesel that didn't sound like a diesel... . well, I ain't buyin' no Powerstroke or dookiemax, but I ain't interested in a too-quiet Cummins very much either.

Now that you've decided to keep the old girl you can take the money you didn't spend getting the new truck and spend it on more bombs and be even happier.

99 vs 03

I test drove an 03 equiped like my 99. Even though I occasionally look for another gear with my five speed, the six speed lacked something, couldn't figure it out. My truck with its puck has more pep that the 03. But what the 03 DID NOT LACK was having to deal with the NV4500 problems, price or quietness. In spite of this, when I trade, it will be for another Dodge/Cummins rig, without the NV4500 problem but with a six speed. I may not be able to hear how much they ask me to write my check for and I am sure my wallet will become lost in my back pocket as it will be empty. Anyone know of a true $100 over dealer. Are there any left willing to sell at this price.

Dealer

Try the dealer in Edina MO. Name Little Jess ( yep that the name of the dealership). I actually live in CO. but have dealt with him couple times because my cousin lives out there. He shot me much better deals that I can come up with here at home.

Love my 5 speed '01, but I'd gladly trade it for an '03 auto, knowing what I do about all the trannies. Some minor DTT-style attention to the transmission, and it'll last a LONG time, and be a LOT more fun to drive. No need to fear or hate automatics. The manuals have their weak points too, I've found the ones in mine more times than I care to admit. :D Rebuilding NV4500's gets real interesting in a hurry :D and is fun, but I've found it's even easier and more fun to build a complete DTT transmission. Only thing more fun than that is driving it !
