While I agree with Bob 100% I have had to add one can a year for the past 8 years (because I haven't chased down the leak and every summer I wonder if adding a can is all that it will take or if it is going to totally crap out on me so far so good. That can seems to last the year or at least the summer months.

im not sure how expensive the kits are, but if you have a friend that is a residential/commercial HVAC tech, sweet talk them and maybe you get it done for free... its essentially the same technology as the big rooftop units.

The refridgerants are not the same.....

I'm at the point where I have to get it filled every year. I go to the A/C shop and it's about $70. Instead of spending the 70, are those one can with the connector and gauge worth trying?

I used to add a can as needed to my old F250, which was the R12. Sometimes I'd get it with Leak Detector. I'm sure one can still get the new Refrigerant with Leak Detector.

I have been lucky so far with my 02 but I think it is going to need a little shot as it takes longer to cool then it use to & is not as cool as it should be.

I have great luck with them. My '01 has required a can every year for years but now for the last three it has not needed any.

The '91 went 18 years with never any service. Last year it finally quit so I used a R34 kit and it is still working fine.

I agree with Bob. If there's a leak it's wasting $$$.

Mine was such a slow leak that one good puff lasted me through the summer.

Be careful not to over charge it or youre going to spend a LOT more $$$ fixing it.
