Do our motor mounts go bad?

I have a strange clunking noise in the left front. I hear it when I go over bumps, letting the clutch out while down shifting, and when I turn the truck off and the motor shakes violently. I checked the front end-no play. Could this be the engine shaking in a bad motor mount?

Eng mounts are a rare failure and I think it's normal for the eng to jump arround when it shuts down. I cant explain the clutch part but the clunk in my left front was a bad sway bar end link (dog bone shaped thingy).
