The 5 and 6 speeds should count. After my back surgery, the doctor told me that since I drive a truck with a stick, I didn't have to do physical therapy.
I do need to start exercising though. Now that I don't work in the garage I don't move enough to stay fit. Wrenching was all the excercise I ever needed, until now.
Before I got the farm and had some free time, I used to hike a lot. Along with that, I would do a 45 minute step/dumbell warmup then an hour on the Nordic Track about every other day. Keep it simple, shop for used equipment.
I end up being active enough that I don't have time to exercise. I pitch tents (large ones) carry heavy objects (well, they're heavy to me!) and move furniture around. Life should be exercise.
I have a BowFlex. I have read comments in other threads about the truth in advertising regarding this product. All I can say is that one must keep up the routine with ANY type of exercise machine to get results. For well over a year, I have kept off 25 lbs and 8% body fat loss since starting my diet and exercise program. I like the BF because I do not have to deal with weights (space is a concern for me) and it gives me "almost" all of the gym excercises I want.
Some walking and hiking but mostly bicycling. In the summer I try to ride an hour a day minimum and in the winter what I can get in between the weather or in the garage on the wind trainer 30 minutes a day. I don't ride every day but I probably should. I feel much better after a nice ride. My longest ride was 140 miles in a day; this summer I shoot for 200. Those are real long days wth many hours in the saddle. We also have a tandem and the wife can ride with me and stay up with me. It works out real well; she watches the scenery I pedal my butt off. It is something like a freight train with the rear locomotive sometimes going off line for awhile. But, at least we are exercising together.
Free weights 4 times a weeks, 150 sit ups every other day, and rack ball 3 times a week. Been doing this for three months now and have gone from 295 lbs to 265 lbs. Rack ball really gets my heart a pumping...
Free weights 3-4 times a week. Some machine work ( Gold's Gym). Treadmill or High School track 2-3 times a week. 3+ miles each time. Been doing this for 6 months. HUGE improvement in energy + weight loss and muscle mass.
I have a gym membership and workout 3 to 4 times a week in the off-season. I like free weights, but sometimes, if the girls are pretty, I move over to the machines. Most of my cardio is done when my dog gets out and high-tails it to the river.
