do you grease....

the tapered bolt on the ball joint end of the track bar when replacing. after having a hard time getting mine out, i'm wondering if i should grease it. thanks. scott.

I put antiseize on all joints like that just to make sure they don't rust. The lube really doesn't help in getting tapered fittings apart though as far as I have experinced.

I was always taught not to use anything on a tapered fit such as the track bar or ball joints. Reasoning being that if it's easy for you to take apart later it is also easy to come lose on it's own. Anything you apply to the fitting acts as a cushion to a tight fit.

I was taught not to lube a tapered shaft because with lube you end up over tightening and stretching the part leading to breakage. Had that happen on a sheave I put never sieze on, it kept tightening right up until it broke. Never got near the proper torque.

Lubing a tapered joint is not good. The taper insures a solid permanent fit on a part that has stress on it and needs to not work loose.
