I am still learning about these fuel boxes and such, but I was wondering if I need to get a boost fooler if I buy a Superchips programmer? I know the most popular ones come with one, but the Superchips doesn't. A buddy that is a dealer said he would loan me one to see if I like it, and I was wanting to borrow it and dyno it to see what the tail tale says.

I think this is going to be my first thing (also a straight pipe) to do since I do want more power, but not to much because of the automatic and my larger tires are throwing off the speedo a couple mph. I thought the tires didn't change anything, but I have been pulled over twice the past couple of weeks for speeding. Luckily I got only warnings.

Thanks for any help,

JD

Any device or box that increases your boost to over 21psi will require a boost fooler, or you will set codes and eventually put the truck into limp mode.

Yes, I know that, but my stupid question is will the programmer give enough power that it will make more then 21psi?

The stock wastegate won't let you get above 21 PSIG (or wherever it's actuating). That's why you need the boost elbow. Once it does get above the stock wastegate setting after you've modified the wastegate function, the ECM will sense that and (1. ) defuel to limit boost as well as (2. ) set an overboost code - unless the Superchips programming changes that feature in the ECM. That's why you need the boost fooler if you add a boost elbow, turnbuckle, etc. to let the turbo build boost above the stock wastegate setting.

If you're talking about this Superchips programer it has not thrown any codes on mine yet and even if it did you just plug it in and reset the code with the diognostics function of the tool. This thing just plugs into the diognostics port under the dash just like the DRB, you upload one of the 3 power upgrades and go. You can also recalibrate your speedo for the bigger tires and select the arctic fuel settings if you go where it that cold. I too wanted just a bit more power and so far I like this programer.

I run the drag comp box... is this "stackable" with it. Can I program the ECM to give me more power and then use the d-comp to enhance that. Just curious.

Thanks

Mark

Oh will it also adjust tire size for any tire or just factory options?

Yes you can stack them. Need to unplug Comp at map sensor and return to stock first. It works awesome on my truck, however one on my buddy's ETC provided no power gain. Tuner has been returned to Superchips for update.

Tuner also has a code reader and will reset codes. It will also adjust speedo for tire size up to 38".

The disadvantage of tuner is that it "VIN locks" meaning once you use it on your vehicle it can't be used on another.

Daveg... did you Dyno. . with and with out the Tuner??? Just curious... hard to believe there is much more in there than with the box on 5x5... but I know there are some "special programed" boxes out there for a few people... So who knows. . I sure don't. . I would guess the other befit would be the code reader. . and tire size... do you know if you can do any of the special function tests for the engine with the Tuner box???

Not that I am going to be buying one soon. . other stuff needed first. . but still have lots of questions...

Thanks

Bryan

The most I got out of mine was just under 10HP at the rear wheels (on any of the three settings).

The tire cal function worked great though:rolleyes:

Personally, I returned mine, and moved up to the PE Comp. Now we're talking power;)

No, I did not dyno, just seat of the pants. Power comes in at a lower RPM with both the tuner and the comp. (maybe because of the timing increase?) which works well with my HX40.

Superchips is aware of the tuner not increasing power on some ECMs. They are working on that.

I have played with the tuner and the comp on various settings and the 40hp tuner program with the comp off seems to provide the same power as the comp on level 1 an the tuner uninstalled. Likewise, the tuner on 70hp seems to produce the same power as the comp on level 3. The tuner combined with the comp is awesome.
