Dodge 1500 transmission

I have a friend at work that isn't here right now so I can't confirm the details but he has a 98-01 1500 that has a worn out transmission. He has asked me to ask you what is the transmission in there now and if a 47RE wil be able to bolt in. I don't think he has the 5. 9L gasser.

He says that the 47RE was used on the 5. 9L gas and diesel and also the v-10. Is he right on that?

He will have the 46re.

It is identical in operation to the 47re and 48re. It has lighter duty planetaries and clutches, and a different case size.

So, a 47RE should be a direct bolt on? Does it need a controller like what the 48RE needs?

NO it won't bolt up.

The cases are different sizes.

It won't need a controller. Computer operates some of it operations.
