I'm sure you're thinking that you're going to see pictures or a story of a wreck, but not this time. I thought this was pretty funny though. I was behind a Tacoma on I-540 this evening headed north at about 80mph. After a couple miles he got over (must have been the Road Armor) and let me go by. I sped up to about 87, passed him, and kept that speed. He stayed on me so I nailed it for a few seconds up to about 105 or so. Naturally, he couldn't keep up :-laf , but I had no reason to go that fast so I slowed down to about 85.

I looked in my rearview mirror a couple of times and saw him gaining on me. I looked up in my mirror a third time and realized that the Toyota did the smart thing. The Tacoma (not the driver) saw the black smoke, the rear Road Armor that it was quickly approaching. The next thing I know, the Tacoma bowed down and gave in to the power of the mighty Cummins.

It was the darndest thing my wife and I have seen in a while. The driver side front wheel and tire fell off the Toy. I was a few truck lengths ahead of him, but it looked like everything came off including the rotor, etc. I haven't seen a shower of sparks like that since the 4th of July. Luckily for him he was able to control it and get it over on the right shoulder. :)

Damn, sucks to be that guy. Glad nobody got hurt. I came from Toyota to Dodge, and I don't care what anyone says, Toyotas are rock solid overall. I can't wait for them to make their diesel. Oo.

I have a toyota t100 that has 135,000 on it. Not one problem with it. Can't complain too much about Toyota, but that would suck loising a wheel, glad everyone was alright!!

Did the Tacoma have oversized wheels/tires? I saw the same thing happen to an an IFS Chevy 1/2T w/ 37" tires.

I've never even heard of it happening to a stock vehicle unless it was jumping around. :-laf

drewRoberts -- Put a Cummins on that Toyota. :D

It didn't look like it had oversize tires. They looked about the stock size for a 4x4 Tacoma.

You should move to Japan so you can drive it then.

But I already have plans to move to Mexico so I can drive my Dodge.

Nah, you fit in just fine here. No matter who owns DC the "Big Three" will never die. No matter what though, a Toyota pulling a load will never be kosher.

Of course, upon seeing the plight of your quarry, you pulled over and helped him retrieve his wheel whilst he called for assistance?

HMMmmmm - And *I* remember when it was "The big 6" - but we don't hear much from Packard, Studebaker or Hudson anymore...

Don't see many new Desotos on the roads either...

Nothing's sacred - and people WILL flock to buy a better mousetrap! ;)

Toyota used to make a diesel pickup, it was a real dog and didn't sell too well.
