Oxymoron: Cummins in a Intrntnl Scout!

Any luck with plastic 'welding'?

To those who have converted their Crews to Diesel, what did you do for a fuel tank? I have one from a 93 CTD Clubcab/Longbed, which will bolt in except for being @ 2" too tall directly under the rear of the cab. Other than that, it would be an exact replacement. The only way I can make it work would be to A: Lower the tank mounts @ 2 1/2-3", or B: Body lift the cab @ 2 1/2-3", or C: A little of both:D . Of course, I don't want to do (A), will not do (B), which kinda leaves (C) as a moot point. So looks like I am back to using my original 85 gas tank. Doesn't look like a problem, just would like to have the extra gallons the 93 tank would give me. How did ya'll do yours?

Hutchew,

Can't understand why you are having a problem, My 1991 Diesel tank bolted right in. The only thing I had to do was unbolt a bracket that was used for the OEM gas tank. You might want to check to see if you are having the same problem, it kept my tank from going up all the way. It looks like a heavy piece of sheet metal, with a 90 degree bend and is located up near the cab bolted to a cross beam. Once that was removed the 30 gallon OEM diesel tank is a perfect fit.

I see why.........

Kyle, yours is a longbed and mine is a shorty, which means I have 2 less feet to work with (hmmmm... does that make me a cripple or what???? ) My 93 tank would be a perfect fit if not for hitting the bottom of the cab... ... ... . bummer!

Got it handled........

I used the original 5/16" delivery port for the return flow, and used the original 1/2" vent port for the delivery. Had to do a few mods down under, but looks like it will work ok. Had to make a new fuel vent port off to the side of the "bung plug". Cool, one more thing done... ..... still chuggin along :D

I have a long bed too, so the diesel tank fit right in from the 91. The only problem I could see off would be the fact that the return line of hte diesel dumps right into a metal well that kinda stays full for the pickup to grab fuel. That way you can run the fuel in the tank down lower between fillups. I converted a gas carb Ford to a Holley projection years ago and I could not run the tanks as low on fuel as before. You might get a tank from a gas shortbed with the EFI. I think it would be the same system.

Fastmark...You the man!!!!!!

Took your advice, fastmark. I see what you were talking about, and you were right, a '90 shortbed gas will bolt right in and it does have the 'well' you refered to. I enlarged the ports a little with a drill bit, as they were fairly small. Other than that, it's an easy way to do it. I bet it would have drove me crazy trying to figure out where I was getting air in the system with the other setup I was gonna use and then I woulda had to fill up anytime the tank got to less than about 3/4 full. Thanks for the tip, buddy. I will someday return the favor. I will post some pics on my website so anyone interested will know what it is all about for future reference. :)
