Just kind of thinking about getting a new car. I went and looked at a 2014 dodge dart yesterday. Didnt have much time, so I didnt take a drive in one.

I did sit in the drivers seat with the key on. The first thing I noticed was the "speedometer" etc display. Totally software and totally programmable. Deal killer for me. I havent looked at other cars yet. I know ford has been like that at least for a few years now, and I wouldnt buy one. Are they all like that now ? What about the new ram trucks ? Do they all have that darned digital display that will break in 5 or 6 years and cost thousands of dollars to fix ?

Almost everything that was on display at the auto show this year had all that high end electronic control stuff featured. I guess that is where the market is heading. I have no interest in it myself, but I'm sure I am the minority.

The idea is your not suppose to own it that long. When talking to people owning newer vehicles stated they had to go to the dealer to get the auto trans serviced because there is no dip stick pretty much turned me off on new vehicles.

Thanks, I was afraid of that. When I buy new, I always keep cars for a long time.

Well, Im 65 years old. I should be able to find a late model car that hasn't been computerized to that level to last me for quite a while. But I feel sorry for you young guys who will have to live with this for a long long time.

Unfortunately, you will have to go back quite a way to find someting that isn't completely computer system dependent. The latest items are just things that are easy to spot, voice activated sound systems, parking assist, etc.

My wife recently got a Honda. They are as computerized as anything else, but have been very dependable in my experience.

Maybe you should get one of these. 31 years old and still going strong.
