New to me 2003 Durango

oil consumption in 2014 dodge

Im just taking this opportunity to vent.
I have a 2014 dodge dart with only about 9k miles on it. It goes thru a qt of oil every 2k miles. If this was a used car with over 100k miles on it I would get rid of it.

Anyway, the dealer is doing an oil consumption test. I just took it in this morning for the 1000 mile test. I had to wait for almost 2 hours just for someone to check the oil level.

First of all, I think the car was parked in a slightly nose down position when he checked it which would show a false higher reading. They actually told me that the dip stick measured right in the middle and that it is normal and the oil is full. I really had to work hard at containing myself. When I told them that it is not correct, and that a reading in the middle of the dip stick indicates that the oil is down and not full, she tried to tell me that when they do oil changes, they only fill it to the half way mark.

I still love my 2002 ram. But Ive never had good honest service from a dodge dealer. I should have know better and bought anything than another dodge product.#@$%!

Just responded to the other post. Open the case. Now you have more ammo. Believe me the rep will ride the dealer like a mule.

Hate to say it but you bought a Fiat/ Alfa. I don't think there's much Dodge lineage in that car. The engine is either the world/ Hyundai joint engine or a Fiat engine.

Well, no. Just like other cars, most darts dont use oil. And I believe the engine is an american engine. And it is made in detroit (there lies a problem).

The problem is dodge who covers their *** with saying this is normal on this and all cars, and the dodge dealerships who I have found over the years to not provide good serve (and they will lie to you if they can get away with it)

AFAIK, all manufacturers have oil consumption cutoff levels above which they will do nothing insofar as oil consumption is concerned. I had a 1993 Volvo 850GLT which was the first model year for their 2.4L inline 5 engine. This car consumed 1 quart of oil every 2500 miles from the time it was new until I traded it with 85,000 miles. Volvo's oil consumption cutoff as I recall was 1 quart every 1500 kilometers (932 miles), so their position was that 1 quart every 2500 was within the "normal" range.

As an aside, I now have a 2013 Volvo C30 Polestar T5 which uses the turbocharged, intercooled version of this same engine - it's been bone dry as far as oil consumption from day 1, so they figured out how to dry it up.

Since it sounds like you hate all dodge dealer and they are all liars why would you buy a Dodge product?

Thats a pretty simple statement there bob4x4. Im actually working with a different dealer on another issue now. I like guys and I think they will do a good job for me. I have a bad taste in my mouth for most dodge dealers from experience. The first on was back in 1973 and my first new car, a 73 roadrunner. Great car, but the mechanics at that dealer were brain dead. The dealer I bought my ram from in 2002 was run by a bunch of crooks. I found out at a late date that they did not do service that I paid them for (I found out after then went out of business). Same dealer punched a hole in the bumper of my chrysler I took in for service and denied it. (I couldnt prove otherwise. That was a dealer in seattle. When I had enough of them I started going to the dealer in Lynnwood. I wont go into it, but they were crooks. They are gone now too. I started taking this presnt dart to the dealer in everett because the uconnect had some weird issues. And it rattled. They told me they all do that. (Dodge warranty service told me differently). I dont go back to them. I now go to the dealer in seattle. The foreman is an old guy like me and knows a little something about cars. I give them high marks.

I think one of the problems with some of the dodge dealers around here is that they hired some of the techs who left the other two dealer who were crooks who went out of business.

And, btw, I bought this car from dave smith in idaho. Ive had nothing but good luck with them are recommend them highly.

I think you will find Im not the only one on the tdr who has had problem with dodge dealers.
