Need help with a Ford 1920 tractor

Going to go look at 2 1999 Dodge Diesel 2500's... One with 128k & the other w/ 120k. Both are 4x4 & Quad Cab & Automatics... Is this alot of miles for a 99 & what price range should I expect to pay??? And what type of Problems should I look For? Thanks

I do not think that is too many miles. My 99 has 100,000 and I consider it to be in good shape. Price... ... ... ... $10,000 to $15,000. Problems??????? Ask for records.

I bought my '97 a tad over 3 yrs ago, w/ 139k. Been a great truck. :)

How much are they asking for them? You can go to www.kbb.com or www.nadaguides.com to get an idea on price. Can also check www.autotrader.com to look at the asking prices in those ads.

Biggest thing on a 24v, is to check the fuel pressure from the lift pump. It is goes out, the fuel injection pump (VP-44) isn't to far behind. The VP-44 is cooled and lubed by the fuel only, not by engine oil like the P-7100 pumps on the 2nd gen 12v engines.

PSI should be around 15psi at idle, and preferably no less than 8psi at WOT.

Those '99s may, or may not have to newer timing case. If they don't, then the dowel pin should be checked. Had to tap mine back into place.

Check the front end (steering) over good, to see if it needing attention.

If auto transmission, then make sure the oil isn't burnt.

A friend of mine picked up a 99 QC auto w/ 130k for around $15,500. We figured out why it was traded. Has/had the erratic transmission shifting form 40-60 mph. We are working on that now. Might have it taken care of. The only other problem was the starter, but the contact kit fixed that. Don't know if the potential of having the 53 block is enough of an issue to not buy.

Bought my 99 with 58,000 miles for $20,000. I now have about 130,000 miles. I would expect $15,000 to be a fair price. I'm in Colorado, and diesels are in demand here, especially the yuppies driving the 6. 0s with an empty pop can in the bed :)

I don't know about PA, but here in Colorado, diesels are usually higher. Are you looking through a dealer or personal sale?

Those miles are nothing as far as the engine is concerned. The rest of the truck may be another story depending on observed condition and maintenance history.

We have a 99 at work that has 280k on it. Pulls like a freight train, though transmission gets a little screwy sometimes. We also have an 00 that have 270k on it, a 98 12v with 271k on it. These trucks even put the energizer bunny to shame.
