Dodge Diesels Rule !

Well 2 weeks ago I bought a 2002 Ram2500 Diesel 4 x 4. What an impressive machine. For years I've had to make do with what I could afford - you know - not really what you want but make do. Well enough of make do. I traded in a Toyota Tacoma 4wd - what a change. I visited a lot of dealers lots - checking Ford and Dodge (no I am not a chevy man-sorry). Finally decided that Dodge was the truck to buy - mainly the Cummins Diesel. This is my first diesel truck and I really like it. So far mileage is pretty good for a big truck 20MPG, and it only has 650 miles on it. A friend bought a gas powered Dodge , but after gettting 8 mpg - decided that Diesel was better. It is - plenty of power - and I like the sound.



I am looking forward to towing my boat and utility trailer and not noticing the weight behind me. Dodge rules

I see you live in Oregon, you ought to bring your new ride over to the Pendleton area weekend of March 9th. Welcome! I have put on 55k on my truck over the last year and a half and I still love my truck! Hope you dont get the itch for more power, because you will never go back it you do! Where about in Oregon?

Ok here is my story, 98 miles edge EZ goes on. 1700 miles DD'3s go in, 2000 mile clutch goes up in smoke (literally). limp to 2400 miles, put in South Bend clutch, then there is the 4" exhaust, the e-brake, the leveling kit, then 12000 miles powermax 3 comp goes in. Now i just put in a new turbo, and i have this incredible desire to try propane. it never ends. for your wallet's sake, leave this site and never visit again You see you too will soon become an addict, and there is no turning back. All i think about or talk about is diesel, I think we need a new forum "Hi my name is ______ and i am a dieselhaulic"



Seriously, you will learn so much here. Do some searches if you decide to make any mods. Chances are someone has been there and done that. Do a little research and your love for your truck will only grow.

It was my first truck too. My dad has a 1988 F350 SuperDuty with the v8 diesel and is jealous. All the guys at work get 13 mpg with 1500's and I am getting 17 mpg around town, 5-10 mile drive to work.



The first time I pulled up to a BurgerKing I could barely hear the kid say "SIR MAY I TAKE YOUR ORDER, YOU ARE GOING TO HAVE TO TURN THAT THING OFF SO I CAN HEAR YOU. " I wish it was louder...



BTW if I could have gotten a 3. 9 Cummins 4 cylinder in the 1500 I would have purchased that, I really did not need the 2500...

I went the opposite way,traded a '98 for a 2002Toyota Tundra. Couldn't take the Dodge part anymore. Just gas,oil filters.

I hope you have good luck with it. Run a fuel additive to lube the injection pump. And read this site to help you care and feed your new beast. I'm only getting 13 @ 5,000 miles. But so far it suits my needs.

I traded a 2001 Tundra for my 2000 CTD . IMHO Tundra is the nicest 1/2 ton truck made. Great quality. You will enjoy it. I had the V-8 with Bilsteins. Great ride.

I traded my 2000 Tundra for my 2002 CTD. This is my first diesel truck I have owned, but not my first ever. I liked my Tundra, but Toyota wouldn't fix the brakes under warranty. They kept telling me it was my fault, but I would have had to do some seriously hard driving to go through a set of brakes every 4000 miles. I had it in the shop 5 times last year for the brakes and just couldn't trust it especially with a baby on the way. That's my story.



I'm still trying to figure this forum out so everyone will have to forgive my lack of knowledge.



I like going through the drive through also and seeing the old ladies complain about the noise Not bad for my first post.

I did the "make do" , "it'll do" and "get by" for many, many years. My last "It'll do" was an '85 Ford 1/2 ton, long bed super cab with the 300cid straight 6, 4-speed manual overdrive transmission and dealer add-on air conditioning. That thing couldn't get out of it's own way on any up-hill drive. It had 168,000 on the clock when I bought it for $3000 and had 247,000 when I got rid of it - and still got $1200 for it then. In the 4 years I had it, I put in a clutch, rear main seal, brakes, tires, and an emissions control piece. I told my wife I didn't want a brand-new truck, but two or three years old and that I was tired of making do and wanted one that would be reliable, comfortable, and a pleasure to drive. I have it now and absolutely love it.

I have a '76 for F100 300cid 'Big Six' 3spd 2x4. I traded a broken motorcycle for it in college put a $250 smokin motor in it and a $75 transmission. . It got 19mpg on the hwy until that motor gave up the ghost... that's a good story to tell over a beer... then I had a new motor put in it for $1600 ( cheaper than a new truck) over the years I've put a radiator in it , added power steering, power brakes, and new tires. It's still an old POS but when I need an extra vehicle it always starts. the wind blows through it and it has no radio but its paid for.



I'd still drive my Ram 10,000 times before I'd climb into old blue.

Ford Big Six

Well I hate to admit it but I had a 93 short bed manual trans that I put a whole bunch of miles on before I sold it and made money- down here in Virginia Fords go fast!!! I do remember that the clutch bearing or some frammus went one day but all in all I dug the Big Six I have now seen the light with Big Green my 2002 3500 4x4 QC Dually

Look at it this way you still have a big straight Six I have two straight sixes. One in my CTD and one in my 95 Toyota Landcruiser. Someone told me once that the straight six is one of the most balanced engine with the fewest moving parts.

Many moons ago I got myself through college driving cabs in NYC and Long Island- mostly Checkers with 350 small block Chevys- we averaged 250,000 miles on these- however the most venerable engine on our fleet was a 225 Slant Six in an ancient Dart or Fury- we estimated that this workhorse had 450,000-500,000 miles on it and when I drove it put a quart of fleet 30 weight in it a day! That was my earliest respect for sixes and Mopar
