I'm about ready to switch tires and go to a 255 or 285 size but I noticed that the Dodge factory step that the dealer installed actually protrudes forward into the front wheelwell some and looks like it reduces available clearance especially with the mudflap against it. I noticed on a friends truck that had a different brand of aftermarket steps and his are further back and don't protrude near as far. Still think I have enough room for the bigger tires but just wondered if anyone else noticed this. The Les Schwab 255's are almost 34 inches in diameter.

I had that problem on my '98. I just got out the 4" grinder and cut about 5" of the aluminum tube out. Worked fine and didn't compromise strength of the nerf bar at all.

I just switched from 235/85/16 to 265/75/16

and yes they do rub when turning full lock.

They only rub on the driver side and just a little,

but I have not found out how bad they'll rub when

off-roading and getting full suspension travel.

I wish I could afford what Dad has on his 2001, which

are Go-Rhino Sumatra 6000 Stainless nerfs. They

are real nice.

I have mopar aluminum step bars on my truck and mud flaps. With the 255/85's they never rubed. Now I put on 295/75's and they do rub at full lock. However they must not rub hard because my mudflaps are still on. I think that they just barely push the mudflaps into the bars. I dunno if they'd rub or not without the mudflaps. Also I do not have a leveling kit, but my truck sits level, not nose down like the 2000 I had ordered.

Tomscreek, that's exactly why I removed and subsequently sold my Mopar black anodized aluminum nerf bar/steps... my brand new (at the time) BFG 285s rubbed the front portion of the tube that protrudes into the wheelwell area (driver and passenger side). After much research I decided to go with the full length (98. 5" long) Warn 4x Boards. :)
