Dodge going to mitsubishi diesel...

... . at least that's what some kid told me last night . He also told me it's because ford owns cummings . I swear I'm going to print off 100 copies of that statement from the Cummins site about ford NOT OWNING CUMMINS and hand them out every time somebody spouts this crap. This kid was kind of young though,and he does have a 12 valve. I did give him a T. D. R. flier and told him to come to this site so he could get set straight . He was riding with a guy in a P. S. D. last night,and I think his Phord buddy was telling him the fd. -cummins thing. It's amazing how rumors become truth after awhile ... Doug

The Phord owns Cummins thing didn't get started by one person. I think illflem nailed it when he stated the Phord dealers are the ones saying this. They say that Phord owns Cummins but Phord chooses to use the navistar diesel in their trucks because it's "better".

You guys may not remember, but Dodge has already tried a Mitsubishi diesel in pickup trucks back in the '70s. It wasn't much of a performer and wasn't a big seller.



I read just the other day about someone still having one of those trucks.

I found out a few weeks ago that Ford owns Volvo. THAT I didn't know. Read it in a business mag or somewhere like that. Am I the only one that didn't know that??

There is a 79 Dodge 4X4 not far from my home with the mitsubishi engine in it. The guy is pretty old and doesn't drive it any longer. I think I'll see if it's for sale. I think it would be neat to have. He said the local dealership only sold two of them.

Yep, Ford bought the car part of Volvo. Volvo kept the truck and constructionequipment parts of the company. They "went shopping" with the money from Ford and bought Mack trucks.

Always Cummins

I met the guy who was placed in charge of the diesel program at Chrysler in the 80's and was told to shop an engine for the pickup line and test it. He had a clean slate and made the rounds. He went to Cummins and saw one of the original 12vs on a bench set-up being run- he saw 2800 on a gauge and commented to the tech that that seemed pretty high rpm for a diesel- he was told that was hours run at max rpm and he said the turbo was RED hot- he stuck one in the pick-up and they worked around the fit problems and the rest is history- it was great to hear the stories from the beginning- he specifically turned down CATS, IH's and Perkins due to reliability concerns. I doubt DC will switch unless GM and Ford get an even better market share with the new quieter PSD's and D'Maxes.

Really? That's discusting! Another old American company being bought up by foreigners . I didn't know Mack sold out. They're an old Pennsylvania company. I got to hand crank my friend's 1912 Mack once.



Now Volvo owns White and the heavy line of GMC trucks. I heard they were trying to buy John Deere too, but I don't think that happened.



So what big truck company isn't owned by foreigners now?
