I was just watching the CBS National news and saw a story about a massive safety recall for 02 rams, 01-02 dakotas and, ram vans. They claim that a worn shift linkage can cause the transmission to pop out of park even with the key in the locked posiition. They also claim 9 people have been injured nation wide.

I have never read or heard of this problem happening here on TDR. Has anyone ever had this happen?

Maybe on an 02 1500.

I feel most recalls are to get the customer back in the dealer to swindle them.

You know, like this.

Your blinker fluid is low and it is synthetic, quite costly, but we have a deal today. Only $900. !!!!!!!!!!!!

Mine has never had an issue with the shifter.

It was the floor shift levers in the car line before... if you could pull out the key when not it park, the dealer would fix it, had one done about 2 years ago. I think the fix was in the console? You can check on line by the model for safety recalls, I checked for my 2001 truck 3 months ago when I bought it. Nothing big came up.

I haven't heard of or seen this happen yet and I have been around Dodges a lot for many years... ... ... It should be ineresting to see what the recall will inspect/replace.

Now that is funny :-laf:-laf

The corporation has no interest in spending it's money on your car. When an older car comes into a dealer for a recall it is for emissions or safety,it is usually forced by another agency. If it is done with out coercion it has generally been a deal worked out behind the scenes to spend less money.

IF it pertains to your truck, can you get just the parts and do it yourself? DC would be welcome to "see" the change accomplished to absolve itself, but not to do it.

I really do not like anyone "messing" on the truck with anything.

Egad! I don't even have Park.
I had a similar recall done on my '96 Grand Cherokee. Never had it pop out of Park or any gear. It was real hard to get it out of Park after the "fix" until it broke in a bit - about 30-40 shifts.

I did have a smog-tech caution me about it once. Said he didn't want to be standing in front of the vehicle if it popped out of Park. I didn't bother to tell him it goes from Park to Reverse.

I had a 04. 5 that was a auto and the problem was it would stay in reverse or drive. when you would shift into park the symbol on the dash read park but the truck would still be in reverse or drive. thankfully the parking brake held the truck the times this happened I noticed this due to the trucks reverse light being on. . but that was a recall and a fix in 2005... but now I have 6 speed and dont worrie. although I dont have a parking brake for for right now but I use a chalk...

I know it's not the same thing, but my 6speed had popped out of reverse twice on slight grades... ... somewhat embarrassing from the K-Mart speaker system to hear: "blue pickup truck is loose in the parking lot"

I never park anymore without using the parking brake!
