Quote from msm.com that Dodge Ram has the highest insurance premium of the top 20 most popular vehicles sold in America. Much higher then Furd F series. Why is that?

My insurance agent says it's based on collision repair replacement parts cost. I discovered this a couple of years ago when reviewing my automobile insurance policies.

Does that mean it cost more to repair a Dodge then a Ford? Insurance for my truck with State Farm is low for full coverage.

Dunno about relative repair costs for other areas of the truck, but the front bumper design is so vulnerable that even the smaller collisions can be quite expensive to repair - and that's probably where most damage occurs...

I pay a bundle for my '07 w/camper here in SoCal. The agent said it's based on repair prices and the fact it does so much damage when it collides with another object.

Insurance is the most crooked game in town! Up in CT I have to pay near 800 a year for liability only on my 98. 5!!#@$%! Ct has a "system" where they charge you for ANY claim ,EVER! and have no rule for reduction of points. I really hate this over-priced state and cant wait to move! Full coverage for 700 would be a deal to me!
The ole lady has a '04 mitsu galant and the ins company claims it to be "a high theft risk" so the required full coverage for it is outrageous!! If I could take the ins money and put it on the loan I could pay the dang thing off in 3 yrs. We hate the car (no fault of its own) and it depreciated soooo fast, I couldnt sell it for 1/2 what I owe! We'd love to trade it on a 3rd gen but no one else wants it either but the insurance people seem to think they're in high demand by thieves! I think they're all full of pooh and they'll pull #s out of thier backsides to justify any rate increase they can dream up. sorry for the rant.

Tell me about it! (as the Maytag repairman says)

I don't know about a Ford, but the insurance company said collision repair cost is less on my wife's '06 Honda Odyssey than my '03 Dodge pickup. I'm over 65 and my rate is higher than my wife's rate since she is under 65; therefore, I am shown as the primary driver of the Honda and my wife as the primary driver of the Dodge.

I guess it costs less to repair plastic than steel...

You hit it on the head Gary. You may recall the Insurance Institute running vehicles into walls to see how easily they are damaged and to what extent. The Dodge must be very vunerable to damage on the front end.

You will find that rates are the highest where the concentration of lawyers is the highest...

One thing that really helped me was to insure our house as well as our car with the same company and enjoy the cross-multiple discounts. For quite awhile my brain wasn't working and our vehicles were with AAA and our house was with Allstate. My buddy's an Allstate agent and advised me to go with AAA all around. If he weren't employed by Allstate,he'd do the same. Whatever works best for you in your situation. There are so many variables, there's no one fix for everybody.

The rear end is also vulnerable. My 05 was rear ended 2 years ago damaging the right rear. Replaced were the right fiber-glas bubble fender, rear bumper, tail pipe and both tail lights. Some sheet medal work was done to the right bed rail and tailgate. Cost was $5,500. The other car was a brand new Mitsubishi Galant which was totalled. The young lady driving the Mitsubishi, which was only a few months old, was on her cell phone at the time of collision.

REALLY?? would never have guessed that one!:-laf:rolleyes:
Thats what keeps places like "ranch hand" in business!

I do wish I had the bucks to put some bumpers on this thing. I wouldn't want the heavy cowcatchers that work for some guys, but perhaps Winch Ready's product that claims a big weight reduction. No deer or moose down here, just careless, idiot drivers.

Insurance premiums

Yes I discovered that the other month when I got my 09 5500 Topkick that it was going to be cheaper to insure! The insurance went up $4++. 00 for this year and the truck got a year older with no accidents on it!!!
