I got one of those 4 legged speed bumps this morning. :{

I was lucky that the damage wasn't to bad. Luckly that speed bump only weighted around 100 lbs. I didn't have anywhere to go. There was a whole flock of them going across the road. If I would have went for the right side ditch and out into a field I would have gotten two that way. If I had hit the left hand lane. I would have gotten two that way. So I stayed in my lane and got one. The Dakota that was a 1/4 mile behind me wasn't as lucky. He sucked up the one I tenderized. It pretty much wasted his front end sheet metal. :-laf He was a low slung 2WD.

I lost the lower drivers side grill insert, the front bumper and the lower half of the drivers fender will need some work on it. I also lost the fender marker light. I was lucky that it didn't get the intercooler, grille main shell or the raditor support.

P. S. I wish I would have had more than 3 seconds warning. :(

I have to dodge them darn things every night on the way home. There is one spot on a curve a mile north of my house I can almost guarantee I will see one, and the family of coons under the bushes at the same place)

Time for a critter deflector? I need to build one yet as well.

Well seeing as how I need a front bumper now. A critter getter is higher on the list than it was yesterday. :-laf :-laf

Glad your alright, that's the reason I got my Buckstop bumper, fortunately I havent got to test mine out yet but I think im ready!

Wal Mart sell's some little mini-megaphone looking things in the automotive dept. that stick to the front of your vehicle with two sided tape. The air rushing threw them is supposed to make a whistling sound to run deer off before you get to them.  just thought I'd throw it out there

I have these on my Peterbilt and have to admit that I see a lot of deer but they are all moving and not standing there staring at me since I got the whistles.

Could be coincidence but then they may just work as claimed.

Those dear whistles wouldn't have helped one bit. This was a herd going across the road. In the short period they were in my head lights. I could see as many as 6 along both sides of the road. I am sure there was more out of sight. In this area right now it isn't uncommon to see 25 or more moving together.

They also were in a dip in the road. So there was no way to see them untill you were over the top of the rise. I had the cruise on 60 MPH. I was able to lay down about 2 seconds of black marks with the duals before I hit that little sucker.

The Dakota that was following me had at least one whistle left on his driver side front bumper. The guy told me that made #9 he has hit in the last year along that road.

Sorry to hear about the sacrifice, but glad you're ok and damage to the truck is relatively light.

FWIW... . I don't think those little whistle things work to well ... . a couple guys around here put them on... . and a few months later they both hit deer... . so we call the deer attractors now :-laf

I think keeping the turbo spooled up would be more effective :D

I read a report somewhere that stated that the deer whistle things do emit a noise that is irritating to deer, but they are just as likely to run toward the vehicle as away from it so you don't gain anything.

Ahhh!! There's a rash of 1st gen front end damage going around! Okay, let's all do a group huddle, pray to the 1st gen gods, we'll have Pastor Bob provide the sermon, and we'll all pray for no further carnage of our beloved trucks. :-laf

A'can I get a big honkin' 'Amen' from the congregation... . !

Wow I thought I was the only one... ...comming back from montana last month I got one also. Same deal but I got luckey and was able to just clip the deer with my bumper.....

I guess I'll call mine a draw since the truck only has a ever so slightly bent bumper now and the deer walked away too.

Do you have any pictures of the buckstop? My friend up in Cananda is a welder so I was going to have him weld me up a nice bumper w/ some heat treated alum but that would take a few days of time. (something I'm short on at the moment. )

Glad your OK

Joe the little damage I got isn't bad. I am glad it wasn't one of the 150 lb versions around here. Only to loose a grille insert and a marker light. Isn't bad at all. The front bumper doesn't bother me. I had planed building a better setup this summer any way.

I had thought about driving our 99 Intrepid that morning. I sure am glad I decided to take the truck instead. That car would have fallen apart on that type of hit.

I know I was doing at least 45 or so when I hit it. All the left side tires went over it. Then that Dakota hit it. Plus the Dakota hit another one with his right front fender. Need less to say I came out a lot better than he did. :D

I'm sorry to hear that Philip, you had one of the sweetest 1st gens around. Hopefully you can get everything fixed up good. BTW, I had an ex-gf whose dad is a State Farm insurance agent, he showed me a BUNCH of deer car collision photos with cars that had those cheesy whistles on them:rolleyes:.

Geezzzz... . you guys are "bucking" the trend here... :-laf... ok, I know, that was weak... my bad. .

... and she said unto them, let not thy countenance be furrowed by the wonders of nature, but rather, cast thine eye's up in from afar and wonder at it's marvels... then MAT the sucker and hold on dude !!!!..... ya baby... ya... praise the pump and pass the sacred injector. . :D

Hi Bill glad you made it home. You have a good trip?

I'll have her fixed up this summer. Sat I am going to go on a scouting mission for bumper material. :D The front fender I can repair. So I only have a couple of small items to find. I'll probably hit the dealer and get a price on the grille insert and marker light. None of the junkyards around here keep anything this old. Plus if they did have a good dog house. They wouldn't split small parts off of it.
