Ah there's nothing like spending a relaxing day at the dyno.

Today, at Dyno-mite diesel in Monroe Wa. I had the good fortune to wittness both a 2003 cummins and Ferd (with the new 6. 0 litre) run and I can safely say the ferd was embarassed. They claim higher HP and torque than us but the dyno don't lie. The ford made about 10% less than the Dodge and when it pulled away they had to clean up a 2" spot of oil!!!

Other fun included running both our engines side by side and finding not only was the cummins quieter but was also smoother.

:D :D :D

More than 10 percent. The Ford did 230/380 some odd and the 03 Dodge went 240/450 some odd. Kinda makes me wonder even more about that pickup.com test. The Peirre Ford guy sure was frowning. For some reason he was nowhere to be found shortly thereafter. I was wondering if Fords figures where an out an out lie or if they are losing that much through the new auto. The dyno thing was fun as I had never been to one before. Some of those guys are real nutcases. What a kick in the pants.

I was a little surprised at the numbers for the dodge. When I was at BD's dyno day in Canada they had 2 cummins that made 255/555. Someone pointed out to me that was something like the math behind Canadian money! :D (remember, I didn't say it someone else did).

By the way, did you stay for the dodge that made 431 HP? It shook the ground and pounded the inside of my chest so hard I thought I was gonna throw up - Jeez it was great!

By the way, it was nice meeting you Krabman.

Missed that one, saw a guy go 445, forget how much torque. That was impressive, was the top dog when I left. Ford was still topped out at 317. It was nice meeting you also. Interesting putting some faces to the names. Next time I go to one of those I am hoping the stuff we need to put up some numbers is out.

Truck details??

Prarie dog / krabman,

Was the Cummins a HO 6 speed?

Was the pherd an auto or stlick?

What were the rearend gears??

I have two pherd salesman touting the 6. 0 over the Cummins.

I notice in the pickuptruck.com comparison, the Dodge had 4. 10's and chubby & pherd 3. 73's... . I don't know how much of a difference that makes, but wondered if that could be the diference??

Thanks for the Dyno input. . . go Cummins.

The Dodges were both HO's. The Ford was a 6. 0 with the new auto, whatever its called. I dont know what the gears were. Even if Fords numbers where making it to the rear wheels it aint much in bragging rights. Since they are not getting there or arnt there to begin with...

From my experience, gearing is not usually a big issue but it does make a difference. Typically a higher (numerically) geared vehicle will dyno lower than a comparable vehicle with lower (numerically) gears.
