There is a you tube video of a 1st gen Dodge with a real Jake posted on the Cummins Forum, can some one please post it here? It sounds awesome and real, so it must be?

All noise... . if it were engaging as one would think it should the Rams Nose should be scraping the tar when it is engaged:D:D

And the drive tires should be jumping up and down with no weight in the bed...

Mike.

Ya dont meen to tell me its one of those LOOK AT ME MAKE NOISE JAKE'S?

The other video called 6BT-2 shows a valve cover shot with some clues as to how they do it. I'm not good with computers so I don't know how to post it here but if you look at the one posted it says 2 videos... . click on that and it is the same truck doing the same show but only 41 sec. long - and with the valve cover shot! Look at it and let us know how you think they are doing it.

Thanks for the update on the second video, unfortunatly I can't post a link either. It looks like high pressure lines of some sort, either oil or fuel that is timed to push down on the exhaust valve at the right time. It might not be so cost prohibitive, I hope:)

Nick

If I had to guess, he's come up with a way to pneumatically open the exhaust valves a little bit. No timing is involved. Since it does not work like a true Jacobs brake, there is no compression to release at the top of the compression stroke, hence its relatively poor retarding performance. It still has the sound effects as the video shows.

Once (if) he gets it patented, it will be public information.

It has to be timed or it would not work. If the exhaust valves were held open all the time it would produce no compression or retarding. Since the lines are routed towards the injection pump, I would say they might be fuel and with solenoids they transfer the injection of the fuel to the exhaust valves and open them. As far as retarding power, it seems about the same as my exhaust brakes with a whole lot better sound:D

Nick

Depends on how many valves they're actuating and what the timing is.

If it's only one "head"--I know the B only has one head but ya know what I'm getting at--it probably wouldn't slow the truck down much at all but still squawk like a banshee through a straight pipe.
