On the way home from work I thought I heard a strange engine noise. So when I got into my driveway I left the truck running, put on the E brake, opened the hood and listened/looked. All was ok, must have been an echo of some sort.

So I get back into the truck and put my foot on the brake pedal so I could let off the E brake get ranny into 1st and shut down.

My foot goes to the floor:eek:

Get out and see fuild dripping from the left front. Blew a brake line near the junction block for the caliper hose. #@$%!

Then had to drive about 2 miles, mostly downhill on side streets to my son's shop. That was a little scary, ni brakes and only the E brake... at least with a stick I can idle thru intersections at 1 mph except for those few. . let's see foot on the e brake, hold the lever out... oh crap truck is still in gear I guess that's what my right foot is for to release the clutch but damn this is akward!! LOL

Anyway should be back on the road today.

Meanwhile I'm driving my son's 05 ... I guess that's no too bad of a deal. ;)

I lost a slave cylinder in a Nissan years ago, I had to drive it thru town 10 miles during rush hour. Talk about noisy and dirty looks... I had to turn it off and start it in gear to go from a stop. Bucking and Kickin' "Yeee Haawwww!!! Just like a rodeo!

Glad to hear you are okay and no damage to yourself or anyone else. I had this happen when I was yuong and my parents '78 Dodge Van had a similar thing happen.
Hey at least you get to drive a nice truck while yours is being fixed.

Yup, she's all fixed up and back in business.

On another note... . looked at an 05 gasser  last night and probably going to pick it up. I don't have the place or the time anymore to keep chasing the corrosion and worn out parts.

Sure going to miss that turbo whine:{ but it's about time to make a move.

Salt rot for sure is a problem. My 98 Ram2500 has blown lines twice, each time in or near my driveway. (like Jay I practice clean living)

I think most have been replaced. I should do a check and replace any but...

I do carry vicegrips and also line plugs, but that dosen't help if my truck is buried in the trunk of another car.

PS Jay, if you get a new truck I hope you keep contributing here.

Whoa! If the line was going to the front brakes you should have still had some pedal and rear brakes. Either the master cylinder is bad or the rears are way out of adjustment??? bg

I had very,very minimal brakes.

They are not too bad for adjustment (I think) ..... they were all new last October (including all hardware) and e brake catches tight about halfway down.

Something for me to check out though.

I wouldn't go that far:-laf

I'll have to retract that statement on clean living. Luck of the Irish will have to do for me.

As to having some "brake" after a line rupture, thats true, but "some " in my experience is "little".

That probably correctly describes the rear brakes on trucks that have the proportioning valve mounted at the rear. :) bg

When I had my 1st Gen, I had lost the rear brake line at the flex line going the rear pumkin. That happened in my driveway after getting the mail, no problem driving it home, LOL. Wife was not happy about losing her car that night. 2nd Gen, lost the hard line due to corrosion, after 5 years :( Moose

PS Jay, Gasser Trash?#@$%!

Come on, Jay. You can at least make a trip out west to get a clean rust free 1stGen.

How much you want for your 25mpg engine and Getrag?

Daniel

I'd love to but just don't have the time.

I did get the 05 yesterday. It's going to the bodyshop this week to get one minor dent repaired... then to my son's shop for a couple of days so he can go thru it.

I'm posting my 91 in the classifieds today.
