Have they made any announcements yet? Just seeing what they are going to do to combat the new Duramax. I have heard lots of people saying MB engine and then some saying new 6. 7L. Just seeing if anyone has any firm leaks as to what is going to happen.

So I am guessing another mid year change like they have done in the past. That should be enough for you guys to not buy the 06's right now.

Not sure when it will be released. I asked him in general if it will be worth getting rid of the 04. 5 I have now for. He just said, "I think you will be very pleased with the new engine".

All I can say is that unless it gets as good or better mileage than the 5. 9, I don't really want it. I have plenty of power now, but I certainly don't want to go to the pump more often then I already do. I think I'm more excited about a possible new transmission then I am about the engine.

That pretty well says it for me too. I have a 97 and an 03, and the 03 is perfect in the engine performance department. It's amazing how well the 03 tows with only 4 speeds, quite a tribute to the 5. 9.

I agree, as much as I like my 48re trucks, I would like to see a modern automatic that can handle the power and have the newer electronic features built in. I also have enough power and would prefer to keep the fuel economy. In fact I think they took a step backwards in 04. 5 with the 600. My 305/555 trucks got much better milage and still had plenty of power.

Keeping up with the Jones' is a difficult thing unless you are willing to trade every year. For most of us that means the truck never even gets broken in. Seems kind of pointless.

WHILE IT IS TRUE THE TORQUEFLITE DESIGN WAS WAY AHEAD OF IT'S TIME

IN 1962, IT IS OFF THE MARK HERE IN 2005. WHY EVERYONE IS SO EXCITED

ABOUT A NEW TRANSMISSION IS BEYOND MY COMPRHENSION. THE ELECTRONIC FEATURES FOR TOWING MAY BE OK, THE PHYSICAL SIZE OF THE

NEW TRANMSISSION WILL PROBABLY BE OK TOO. THE PROBLEM WILL LIE IN

MODIFYING THE TRANS FOR PERFORMANCE. IT WILL BE ELECTRONIC, WHAT

ARE YOU GOING TO DO, ADJUST IT WITH A LAPTOP EVERYTIME DOWN THE

DRAGSTRIP LIKE AN DURAMAX TO RESET THE SHIFT VALUES. SPEAKING OF THE ALLISON WHY DO YOU HAVE TO TALK WITH BULLYDOG TO GET MORE THAN 95HP DOWNLOADER OR YOU'LL BE SPENDING BIG DOLLARS TO LET IT LIVE. WE HAVEN'T EVEN GOT INTO CONSISTENCY. RIGHT NOW YOU CAN

RAISE LINE, CHANGE SHIFT POINTS, FIRMNESS, LINE RISE, CLUTCH PACKS,

MATERIAL ON BANDS, SERVOS, BOOST PRESSURE, ETC, ETC.

YOU WON'T KNOW HOW GOOD YOU HAVE IT UNTIL IT'S GONE.

Same goes for me.

I have been in the market to upgrade to a new 3rd generation Ram but have been waiting to see what DC comes out with in the new engine and auto transmission. The current engine has plenty of power for my needs and with the current prices for diesel I would like to see an early 2006. 5 release of the rumored 68re transmission with the 610 engine. Of course if this new transmission has an extra overdrive and the new Cummins can match the current engines fuel economy, I certainly wouldn't say no to the extra power. :D

I don't know what I'd do with more power either. In the few times when I need to move quickly, I have enough trouble keeping the tach needle out of the redline now as it is :-laf . Guess I shoulda got a 3. 73 axle.....

New engine & transmission

The dream of a super duty 3500-5500 will come one day. The sooner the better. A larger engine would be great but to be real honest, a bigger engine is not really a big dream for me. I tow a 13k+ Cedar Creek and I don't think I need anymore power. I have driven much of NC and from here to Santa Fe this summer. I have yet to hit a hill that I can't stay at the speed limit. Can you get any better? I would rather see better brakes, better trannys, better springs, better controls for the trannys, etc. My TST does a great job. My well equipped 2500 does me a great job. The tire companies need to get with a plan and give us some big float 10-12 ply tires with street treads. . :-laf

Try getting big rigs and big duallies into some of the small campgrounds on the parkway in NC. .

I'm thinking just the oppposite! Remember the first year or so on the Ford 6-point-oh-no? Not good. Dodge and Cummins CAN and WILL do it right, but I'm not so confident that it will be during the first couple of production years. The 5. 9 is tried and true... . thus I'm glad I've got an '06 on the way.

I read a blog the other day that reportedly Dodge is in a joint venture to develop a 6 speed automatic trans . I don't know if it includes use for the Cummins or not but for the other lines it did. The primary reason for the extra gears was fuel savings. Don't remember who they are partnering with though. I'll try to find that site again

I hate these "I've got a friend ..... " blah blah deal... ... but,

Does everyone realize how many meetings Cummins and JTE (Jeep, Truck Engineering) have discussed this?

Cummins reply: "You tell us how much power you want out of the 5. 9, and we'll give it to you"

It ain't the lack of ability for the existing motor to make power.

PS -- Sightings have been made in the Michigan area of an aluminum/billet 5. 9. :D

5. 9 OR 6. 7, I wouldnt worry about the power, you can have as much power as you can afford regardless of the block. Remember those 94-97 12 valves, some of the most wildest, wickest trucks on the planet house these 12-valves but 24s and HPCR arent to far behind either. I love my 05. I'll keep it and buy another before I get rid of it, but truck payments for the next 30 years would get old just because they say the new 07,08,09... . has this or that dont make it better or worse than the older ones, remember 2007 emissions and 2010 emissions and going to play hard with are beloved Cummins' in our Dodges as well as all other Diesels that are intended for road use, even ag and const. equipment are getting stricter.

The new (rumored, whatever you wanna call it) 68re will be nice once the bugs are worked out, 4500 5500 trucks will be great too, It almost keeps you on the edge of your seat just to see what the auto makers will do next

JUST MY 2 SENSE, HAPPY TURKEY DAY TDR MEMBERS AND FAMILIES

I remember when everyone was sweating out the 2004 changes, gloom and doom was predicted. What we got was CI-4+ and EGR for most diesels, Navistar ditched the 7. 3 for the sick. 0, but life goes on. Cummins dodged the EGR bullet with a better injection system.

There's no reason to think 2007 won't see the 5. 9 burning low sulfur fuel, and making all the HP DC is willing to pay for.

From a practicality standpoint, all the big three make enough HP now to be dangerous in a tow vehicle. (Did I just say enough HP!!! Adjust my medication!)

I would like to see a 1/2 ton 25 mpg diesel pickup.

Think what you want to, but what kind of moron would I be to get on TDR and spill my guts about what I do know. Why would I risk getting my friend fired just to be "Johnny on the spot" for a bunch of folks I don't even know? No offense. All I can say is that I don't know what you have seen in MI, but I guarantee you that isn't what is going in the Dodge. IT WILL NOT BE A 5. 9 ... Take that to the bank. . ;)

I think Cummins has their house in order for 2007. In the over the road trucks, they all had problems with the EGR, except for, Cummins... ... ...

No offense taken CoolSlice. :)

Also - sorry, my reference to the aluminum block was not intended to mean for "production", but aftermarket.
