Does a chip add extra oil pressure that would blow out seals prematurely?

The oil pump is a purely mechanical device that has no clue as power mods or their effect - not computer controlled in any way.

HOWEVER, as various power mods increase cylinder pressure, the internal blowby and related issues CAN increase internal engine/crankcase pressures - and possibly affect seals at various points.

The reason I asked is, I had an oil leak. Took it into the dealership who I know the service manager at who said there wouldn't be a problem fixing the crankshaft seal. Picked up the truck Wednesday. Still had an oil leak, but I thought it just might be residual that wasn't cleaned off. Friday night, pull out of a buddy's house and the truck goes nuts, throws codes, pops at higher rpms, couldn't keep a constant RPM and dies when going to idle.

I look under the hood and the harmonic balancer is flopping around. My buddy who does most of my non-warranty wrenching gets under the truck and can finger tighten all of the harmonic balancer bolts.

I took it in this morning and dealership says that the chips caused oil pressure above the normal limits to blow out the crankshaft seal and that the harmonic balancer bolts had loctite blue on them before. Is this an excuse??

plain & simple. the dealer tech f**ked up. to do the front seal, the balancer and tone wheel come off [along with more stuff] and it needs to be torqued properly when put back on: 30 ft/lbs + 60° turned.
if the tech missed the +60° part, it was way under torqued [30lbs & 60° gets you somewhere around 80lbs/ft or so]. . make sure the crank stub isn't damaged. or the holes in the tone ring & balancer are not ovaled out. .

you can get excessive crank case pressure if the breather isn't working right, or if you are getting extra blow by from the extra combustion pressure. . or if you are way overfull with oil [like 4 gallons instead of 3]

the balancer bolts have blue goo on them from factory. i've had mine off 2 times, and i never put any new goo on them. mine has not backed off yet

MAN, I just LOVE those "experts" at the dealerships!

That's why mine rarely sees in inside of anyone's garage but my own - sometimes even that "free" warranty service carries a stiff price tag!;)
