Under a load towing, I get a anoying vibration that resonates out of the tranfer case shift lever, especially at lower engine speeds. If I pull the lever to the right slightly it goes away. Has any one else experienced this problem??

I got so annoyed by it one day I pulled over and borrowed my daughters elastic hair tie and ran it between the shift level and a screw under the dash. Stopped the buzz,it's been on there four years now. Other folks have posted more appealing solutions to the problem,if no one pipes in check the archives.

What I do is attach a bungee strap of just the right size to move it over to the right about a inch or so. I thought a piece of rubber placed strategically in the linkage underneath could help??

I had this from day one. The clever lad at the dealership fixed it by wrapping electrical tape around the spring underneath. Since then I believe Dodge has come out with some plastic washers that go in there. There are also several other remedies floating around that I have seen.

I had a similar problem under hard power. The shifter lever buzzes or rattles. See issue 18 page 60. The TSB # is 21-13-96. I had this fixed under warranty when the truck was new. It has came back. I now have 82k. There were sime other fixes with tyeraps etc. in some of the other back issues but I don't remember exatly what they were. If you can't find them or don't have back issues, I will be more than happy to research further for you.

I used to have this problem. Check this TSB from the Dave Fritz website:
http://www.ecpe. vt. edu/%7Edfritz/technical/TSB97/21_12_97. HTM

It involves bending a spring tab on the transfer case to apply more tension to the shift lever. I also took my boot off and found another problem. The shift lever rides in a slot cut in a plastic block - kind of like a gated shifter. The block had become dislodged from the bracket that holds it, allowing the shift lever to vibrate directly on the metal bracket. The two repairs together took about 30 minutes.

Make sure the shift gate (plastic part) as pointed out above is not loose. A little silicon sealant with fix this. Mine did it at 15K. The fix has lasted the last 165K miles.

I have had a similar problem with the transmission shifter,(not the transfer case shifter. Seems the rattle comes from the shifter knob itself. I've tried to loosen it and retighten it but nothing seems to work. Any ideas???

I had that problem after I installed a B&M T handlshifter knob on the T-Case. I think mine was caused by the added weight of the T-handle and it would stop when it was pushed to the right. It stopped when this happened: #ad

That seemed to move things just enough to stop the rattle. (dont try this at home)

Geez, there is still a body in that car!!!!!
I'm not critisizing your way or nothing, but I'll go with the bungee cord.
