I need to get something to store odds and ends that i dont want floating around the cab. But at the sametime I dont want to lose any length because i need to haul a honda rubicon that doesnt leave much room to spare this protec looks like it could be great to store ammo gloves and wrenchs, etc. I know protec makes a great product just want to know if any of you guys have any fender boxes like this one. Or maybe i am introducing a solution to someone in the same boat as me.

It might help me, but I need more info, too.

A long time ago in a truck far away, I had a plastic one with a side-hinged lid. I'm interested in a metal one for my current truck, but I have the impression most have an end-hinged lid. Since I sometimes run a topper, that won't work. I'm also concerned about height, since I need access to the underside of the bed rails for the clamps that hold the topper on. I'm also interested in the style that has the rear-opening drawers, but have the same height concern.

Has anybody used or seen one (of either style) that would work with an often-removed topper?

The fact that I remove my Bedrug when the topper is off is a whole 'nother problem...

Check around a Military surplus store/website.

I had a pair of boxes like that. They come in right and left also. I gave the ones I had to a friend years ago. They are made of steel with one long hinge on it. That is why there are sides to them. Only problem I had was rust in this area. I had to paint them a couple of times a year.

I am not personally using the fender well boxes but I do have a Protech box. About the best box money can buy but they are somewhat spendy. I bought the polished lid instead of the diamond plated lid... ... . looks prettier. :D

The ProTech site mentions custom designs shipping within 5 days, so that sounds like they could address my height and side hinge issues. I guess the drawer units could always be removed from their base for topper clamp access, and then re-installed. Thanks for the links!

I'm looking for something similar but with drawers instead of top hinge, I have a tonnuea cover. I have found several, including ones like u r looking for at Sear, Cabela's, JCWhitney and several others. Do a web search for truck bed tool box and u get several sites.

My problem is finding one that willl let me slide plywood and drywall in the bed flat. If anyone comes across one claiming to do this drop me a PM.

Hope this helps,

J-

I bought two of the Weatherguard Porkchop boxes. One of the handiest things I've bought yet. I've got em filled with tools, tie downs, filters blah blah blah. They're built real well, have quality latches/locks and hinges. I put them in front of the wheel well instead of behind. My only beef is I'm about 1/2" shy of 48" between them. The Weatherguards are pretty spendy but you get what you pay for. Bought em at Ranch and Home

Take it easy
