Does check engine light clear after so many key cycles?

I had the Air intake tube off to check something on my 06 Cummins and forgot to plug in the air inlet temp sensor once re-assembled before I started it, so the check engine light came on I plugged it in, but the light is still on. I only drove it twice since then.

I know the code may be stored until its cleared manually with a scanner, but will the light go out after so many run cycles? My dad is a GM tech but has the scan tools, but if it will go out on its own after a few days I wont bother making a special trip to his house. (then again, it is an excuse to go and kill a 12 pack with the old timer)

Yeah it will go away after 5 or 6 cold starts.

With my 03 it takes 9 starts.

It will only clear if the problem has gone away or been fixed. Try turning your ignition on and off three times leaving it in the on position the third time... you should be able to watch for any trouble codes where your odometer is.

I did the same thing and I have the check engine light and P0073 and P0107 codes. So I should just ignore them and they will go away after several cold starts? Thanks for any information.
