A buddy of mine removed the cat from his '06 3500. He wants to know if he needs to hang on to it for future warranty work or can he get rid of it? Thanks

Long story short, It is illegal to remove ANY emisson equipment, punishable by jail time and huge fines. Tell him to hold on it just in case for inspections. But it depends on what is being warranted. Like if his power seat breaks, I don't think they will void the warranty b/c of a missing cat.

Just tell him hang on to it.

Tell him to hang on to it. If he went to buy a replacement I think the price is somewhere near $1100. . Also, the fine for removing it is steep. . As for warranty that really is up to the dealership and where he goes. Most would agree they could give you a hard time about it knowing that removing it was against the law...

with 65k i wouldn't worry about it too much. when i worked at a dodge dealership the max a cat was warrenteed for was for 80k

Long story shorter is that it depends on the state in which the vehicle is registered. In NY, the rules are getting worse, and in Westchester, Suffolk and Dutchess county we diesel guys have to have a safety AND emissions inspection every year. Which means they stick that stupid monitor in your tailpipe. Which means you BETTER have a cat if you want to pass.
