thinking about replacing my 305-65-17 BFG a/t's (load range E) with 35" tires. As noted i have 17" rims.

Will changing to a bigger rim make any difference regarding performance or price?

I have 19. 5" commercial tires on my 3500's, same size as the 5500... we like the quality, price, mileage and increased safety factor when towing...

We keep the trucks for 500K miles... I'm guessing that over that time the 19. 5" dually wheels and tires reduce the tire cost by 50%... .

The 19. 5 we use is a 1/2" taller than the stock 17" so we get an accurate speedometer.

It is a harsher ride towing...

Bigger wheels will increase handling (if same diameter tire is used, due to shorter sidewalls) but make the ride harsher.

But they will also increase braking distances and make your truck slower, unless the larger wheels are lighter. Going to larger tires will have the same effect.
