Hi,

My 99 Dually is in the shop and won't start. It's definetly the starter, and I told the Dodge Dealer to replace the Start Contacts.

They called Dodge and Dodge said that the starter irself must be replaced as a unit, the contacts are not replaceable by themselves.

I have to call them back right away with permission, which I assume I will have to give, since they don't have any of these contacts.

is this true, and should I ask for my old starter back?

I gave them the go-ahead.

They said they couldn't replace the contacts.

I will keep the old starter and check this myself.

Dealer

I will pay to tow 200 miles rather than go to a dealer. Let me guess...

$ 650. 00 total to replace starter . Hmmmm $ 25 for new comtacts and do it yourself. Best of luck. Most of our suppliers are more than willing to overnite parts for us that need it. R C

I wanted to thank you guys for responding.

I don't have a garage here in Rochester NY that I am aware of that would work on the Cummins except for the Dealer.

Anyhow, I had the Dealer do it. The part was $350. 00, and a couple hours labor brought it to $500. 00, which is about what I expected.

Now that I have the time, I'll check out the contacts you suggested. I saw them in the mag the same day it broke down, wouldn't 'ya know. I did ask the dealer, but the dealer said even if I had them he wouldn't put them in.

The NAPA part idea sounds too good to be true, but I will check them out also.

My thanks to you all. Unfortunately, I'm broke down again, 2 weeks later, with a cracked fuel filter housing, which is my latest post.

This is getting expensive...

Regards,

Robert
