Does the instrument cluster log the mileage, or does the ECM??

Hey y'all. . my cluster is acting up, and was wondering if I replaced it, if I would have a different reading in the cluster vs the ECM if it records mileage. . Someone has to know, so help me out!

If you replace the cluster, you will have to program the mileage into the new cluster.

The ecm records mileage,but the dealer can change it. The cluster stores the mileage,the dealer can not change or enter it in a new cluster.

My instument cluster was replaced by the dealer. They have to send out the new replacement cluster to DC to programmed the original mileage of my truck. Mine was done under warranty.
